Savage 12FV & 10FP is Stainless Steel Better?

Anyone? What's the difference betweenthe 12FV and the 10FP, action and barrel? Are they the same other than one being SS? The stock doesn't matter as I will be changing it. The Savage website gives just basic information as far as I can tell??? Is Stainless Steel better???

Try visiting Savage Arms.com. They have an online catalog.

Be sure and check the twist rates, especially if you're still considering the 223. I think the 12 is a 1-12" and the 10 is a 1-9". I have HEARD that stainless is harder to 'break in', but just about every custom barrel I've ever seen is stainless. I'm guessing that the best barrel makers don't make their best barrels out of it for nothing.

I have a 12BVSS in .223 and it is a 1 in 9" twist. I think the current Savages in .223 are 1 in 9" or 1 in 7".

The difference is the FP model has a barrel 2" shorter and has a "matte blue finish" (more dull finish)... twist rates are the same, the action/bolt are the same, both bolts are over sized... the police model comes with an extra stud at the front... Everything else is the same.

SS can take a product like "gunkote" or even be bead blasted for a dull finish.

24" or 26 " barrel?

24" or 26 " barrel, will the extra 2" increase accuracy or just add more distance?
