Duh,
After firing another box of shells, and talking with a bunch of experts I found out that one should never be pulling back on the pump of a pump shotgun when firing the weapon. It WILL cause the locking latch to bind. I was using the pump foregrip to help press the weapon into my shoulder.

Thanks for all the assistance from you guys. The firing line forum is invaluble for us newbies!

Sometimes a new gun takes a little getting used to. Anyway, it sounds like your Marine Magnum was a good choice and is working out okay.
