Some say that the rebated step between bearing surface and boattail gives the same effect as a flatbase bullet and a clean exit from the muzzle.
This is claimed to improve accuracy. It is also claimed to improve air flow over the bullet. JLK VLD bullets have a slight rebate and they post a higher ballistic coefficient than Berger VLD. I am not a good enough loader or shooter to tell a difference. I have shot mostly JLK VLD 90 gr .224s after giving up on Sierra MK 90s as a Long Range bullet. But that was more because of availability than superiority over Berger. |
