Score high pillar bedding
Are they any good? What tools and materials do I need to do it? Is it worth it to rent their drilling jig? Thanks

I used to make pillars in 2004 from 3/8" brass tubing.
http://www.thehighroad.org/showthrea...ghlight=pillar But it had dissimilar metal issues with the steel receiver. Then I did 3/8" stainless tubing, but it had maintainability issues. Now I use 1010 steel tubing for pillar bedding Rem700s, 98 Mauers, Mosin Nagants, Howa 1500s, etc.

Clark that 1010 steel, is it readily available at most metal shops, and what thickness did you like to work with?

Not at amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Carbon-Steel-S...pr_product_top But granger does http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/Tub...AC9?Pid=search I use the .305" inside diameter tubing, which leaves room to wrap tape as spacer around the action screws. Attached below is a drawing I made for a Mosin Nagant, to make relief cuts in the pillar to clear the Timney trigger. Here is Wagner using pipe on a Mauser http://www272.pair.com/stevewag/turk/turkbed1.html The bottom of a Rem 700 action is round , 1.35" diameter. I thing conventional wisdom with them is to make a wide pillar and notch the top with a radius to fit the bottom of the receiver.
