Them are the "cutters" that will muck our dogs right up and if they live, will be on "injured reserve" for a good while!
Nice hog! Brent |

The smile on your face says it all. I wish we could hunt pigs at night here. Good pig to make a Euro mount. Nice tooth shape. Super cool video.

DID YOU GET A "HANGING WEIGHT" ON THAT BIG GUY? Or maybe a cleaned and gutted weight? My uneducated guess would be close to 200 lbs.?? How far off am I???

Nice shot. Did you cut feed ramps into your m4 style 7.62x39 upper?
I'm thinking of doing it (or having someone more competent then I do it.) Thoughts? |

My favorite game. That's a beauty! I'll be trying for one in October with my Contender in .357 Maximum. Hope to get as nice.

I'm thinking of doing it (or having someone more competent then I do it.) Thoughts?" I know nothing about A.R.'s. The only thing I added to this rifle is the sling and the N.V. scope. The only issue I had was using crappy ammo at first. Got 50 shots down the pipe and it was so mucked up I wouldn't cycle. N A S T Y!!!

That's gotta be well over 200 lbs. I've seen 230 lb. (field dressed) whitetail bucks and the mass on that hog is something else.

IN TEXAS, FERAL HOGS CAN BE HUNTED YEAR ROUND (no closed season) DAY OR NIGHT, WITH LIGHTS, DOGS, RIFLE, HANDGUNS, SPEARS, KNIVES, ARCHERY GEAR & NO BAG LIMITS.
BIOLOGISTS ESTIMATE THE TEXAS POPULATION TO BE CLOSE TO 2 MILLION. THEY ARE EXCELLENT FOR THE TABLE, ESPECIALLY AT < 150 LBS. GURU1911

Since Zen isn't saying I'm going to guess 300 but I generally go light. If it were on "Hogs Gone Wild" or a hunting show it would be 500, easy.

Don't forget we'll be able to hunt them from helicopters soon, GURU1911. Not gonna say how I feel about that, could be an interesting thread tho.
+1 on the excellent table fare as well. I've eaten hogs somewhat over 200#s that were very good, this year's smelled better than the domestic pork I bought to bring up the fat content for sausage. The sows are often better eating and taking them out of the breeding business may be helpful as well. They can have almost three litters a year and can reproduce before their first birthday.

That is one seriously big Hog. I've got nothing around here the size of that, I hope. I'll guess the weight at well over 300 for full body weight. The last one I weighed was right at 200 pounds, and he was nowhere near the size of that one.

I get the feeling that due to the size of the critter, it may not make great 'Tablefare'? It does make a fine wall-hanging though!!

If quickly gutted and cooled then carefully processed... ALL FERAL SWINE IS GREAT EATING!
There are "specialty meat dealers" that specialize in "wild BOAR" meat. There have been many people that have been fed LARGE BOAR pork after they said they will not eat boar and I know of none who turned up a nose to it. The one exception I will buy into is regarding boars caught with dogs and immediately killed. These seem to have a "gamey" taste that is likely related to adrenaline and/or testosterone dump into the blood stream during the chase and catch. Most of the doggers prefer to tie them up and haul them out alive to be penned anywhere from a couple days to a few months. For me, 7 days seems to be fine. Fed on corn and/or pig feed daily. Final night they get "dispatched" clean and quiet and the meat is supreme! Brent |
