Benelli M1 Ghost Sight problems

I've had some interesting problems with my Benelli M1 lately.

It has the factory Ghost sights. The rear sight blew clean off

a couple of sessions ago. Now the front sight went totally loose.

I thinking of having a gunsmith remove the front sight completely

and going for say an aimpoint system. Any other Benelli users

out there with loose front sight problems. What did you do

to solve it?

Thanks

How old is your Benelli? Benelli factory ghost ring sights had some quality issues until Benelli switched them out for the LPA sights that are packaged with new Benellis. The switch to LPA sights was relatively recent, but >1998 or so.

LPA sights

Thanks,

Mine was purchased in 2000. How can I tell if they are LPA sights?

Winston,

All of the late model Benelli ghost rings have "LPA" stamped on the side of cartridge ejection.

Hope this helps.

Front Sight Loose

Anyone have any ideas/tricks on how to get the Front Sight of
a Benelli M1 S90 tight.

The nut is very hard to reach and the only way I can get at it
is with a small needle nose, but not enough to really torque it
down

The nut is surrounded by the frame of the sight. There is nothing
to grab on the front sight post.

Thoughts?

The new Benellis use the LPA rear sight. If it is installed correctly it won't come off. As far as I can tell, they are still using the old front sight. That's why people are still having problems with the little nut working loose.

Installing a new LPA front sight is expensive. Besides the hand work required, the barrel has to be refinished. Depending on who does it, you can figure on spending $100 to $150.

You might try fixing it with red Loctite. Clean everything well with brake cleaner and apply the Loctite to all mating surfaces. Find someone with a set of small box wrenches. An auto mechanic should have them.
