Here in southern WI, the coyote population has skyrocketed in the last several years from virtually nil to a nuisance.
(I've heard the Waukesha County Park System issued a warning recently that small dogs should not be brought into the parks, because coyotes may eat them, even on leashes. And, some friends lost 2 cats to coyotes over the summer) So, I've heard about varmint calling/hunting and I'm intruiged by it. I want to start hunting Coyote this year, but I have one question: What do I do with a dead coyote? I know what to do with deer, squirrel, various birds, etc, but what about dogs? I've never heard of people eating them (in this coutnry, anyway), so all I can think of is to skin it and sell the hide.. I've heard this is only worth a few bucks, though. I'm going to hunt fox too, so my parents have furs to train NAVHDA dogs with. so? |

Well, browse the archives for "how to" do calling and all that. Also, http://www.varminter.com has a bunch of info.
Skinning out a coyote for salable pelt is a bit specialized. Varminter.com has several trappers who can tell you some how-to stuff, there. As for the carcass, I just cut off the tail for a "trophy", and leave the rest for recycling. It will definitely be eaten by something--and surprisingly quickly. Best luck and good hunting! Art |

OK, I'm not going to post it here, but I know Art has seen my skinned coyote picture over on Varminter.
(It's the one that says..."I'd rather go naked than where fur.") hehe |

Skinning them for the fur and having it tanned is pretty cool. The skull makes a neat wall hanger.
As for the carcass, a quick burial would work if you don't want to feed the vultures. As Art says, stuff will not rot (much).. Giz |

Not to worry. Other coyotes will clean up the carcass in no time flat.

Most fur buyers in the Vernon Co area would pay the same for an unskined yote as one not skinned the way they want.

Puffy Fox September 2000, Aspatria*) "This whole story has been blown out of proportion," said a spokeswoman for the Over&Sons Garage. "It is true that a man walked onto our forecourt in the Market Place with a fox under his arm last week, pushed the compressed air nozzle of the into its rectum, popped 20p in the slot, and pumped it until it exploded. But what the reports fail to mention is that the animal was already dead. "All that really happened was that an amateur taxidermist had brought the dead fox in and asked if he could pump some air between the fur and the skin to loosen the pelt. He just overdid it a bit, then fled in embarrassment." There were animal parts scattered all over the forecourt, and a cluster of shocked and horrified people. "The garage has been under siege for several days following a report on calling the act ‘sick and disgusting.’" Animal rights activists have been calling the station and threatening reprisals. "Nobody will work here alone anymore." Its hard enough to hold a living fox, let alone insert an airline up its rectum, I should imagine". Police confirmed that they had identified the taxidermist, and are convinced that no criminal act has taken place. However, they did warn the fox-stuffer about the advisability of inflating animals in public places. |

ROFL! I've skinned deer with a tractor and with a jeep, but never tried airing up a fox or coyote!

I think he said it in the "Outlaw Josie Wales." I don't remember if he said it in "Two Mules For Sister Sara." Could be.

That's the one. I'm sure of it. It was when she was getting atacked, and he killed them, when they first met. And then he takes their money, and booze, and she's like "aren't ya gonna burry them" and he says: Well, ya know what he says. So then she burries them, and then blesses them with his canteen water, and he gets all p*ssed. Yeah, that was the one |

Back in the 70s I would take the dead coyote to a fur dealer and he would skin them for half of the money. It wasn't much but my half would usually buy a box of shells.Anymore most farmers in my area want you to kill every coyote you see. They blame them for loosing baby calves sometimes and I think I have lost a few to them also.I usually just leave them lay anymore since the Hides don't bring much in our area.
