75-77gr loads using Benchmark

Hello all,

I am working on some heavy loads for my AR's chambered in 5.56.
I have a ton of Benchmark powder, and have been using Hogdon's load data.

I would like to know if any of you are using Benchmark for heavier loads, an what your load/veloctiy/accuracy is.

Benchmark is a little too quick burning for the 77 gr bullets.You will be at high pressures before you get the 2700 or so fps you probably are looking for.

My brother has a nice shooting load for PD's using Benchmark behind a Nosler 60 gr Varmint Ballistic tip.I do not know the charge weight.

My thoughs too,what other powders do you have.

If you have any R15 Varget 4064 4895 I think you will be happy.I have on-unce found a load with 4007 but walked away from it.But I know where your coming form,you have so use it.

I don't think that I would discard the idea of using Benchmark. I've used it for 77 grain Noslers but I don't have the data handy and I don't want to guess. The accuracy was very good but I'm not sure about the speed. It may not be ideal but if you have a lot of it give it a shot. With components hard to find now it is a good time to experiment.

For 77gr jacketed bullets, the Lee manual suggests a starting load of 20.5g of Benchmark. NE load is 23.5.

For .223/5.56 loads all I have is benchmark.

I've worked up the load to around 2650 fps out of a 16" barrel.
