Anybody shot one of the semi-autos, Red Lion, Gold Lion? Looked at one of each in a shop, very nice looking shotguns, esp. the wood on the Gold Lion. Went to the HK website, they have new models out (Mark II) with a new gas system. The ones that I saw are old models, wondering if anybody knows what changes were made and why? CDNN has the old models on closeout, $399, and $469. I could have a buddy order me one and get it for less than $500, saving me a couple hundred over what that other shop has them tagged at.
Any comments? bergie |

I'd say HK has too much to risk with partnering with a company that makes junky guns. The mag capacity was a little low (2 shells). They seem nice, but I don't own one. I have the feeling that this is one of those quirky guns you will learn to appreciate for its strengths, hidden and apparent. I would like to know what they changed as well.

See what I mean about mag capacity? 2 shells only, 2 3/4" only. They come standard with something like the Vang Comp system. |

Why would I need more than 2 in the mag? The limit on pheasants is only 3. and I wouldn't have to worry about plugging it for waterfowl. Seriously, that is not a problem for me, rarely does the situation arise that I would ever put off more than three shots when hunting birds, even if one is a miss, that still means I got two birds. You learn to make your shots count when you learn to shoot with a 20 gauge bolt action. Neither is the 2 3/4" chamber, I've never had anything but that, max loaded 5 shot 2 3/4" out of a full choke will take care of those spooky far-flushing late season roosters as well as a 3"
Went in and checked it out again yesterday. The Gold Lion that I looked at had some of the nicest wood I've ever seen on a shotgun and the overall fit and finish were excellent. It felt very light and well balanced. I'm just trying to decide if I can afford another shotgun right now, a buddy just offered me a deal on a carbine that I would really like to have. bergie |
