Acceptable Bullet Weight Variance?

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how much of a weight variance in a box of lead cast bullets is acceptable. I bought a box of .45 255gr for a SAA and I weighed them all and the weights ranged from 253 to 262 grains. Most of them fell in the 257/258 range.

These were cast by a local man and are sold in a local sporting goods store.

Acceptability will depend on your type of shooting and range. If most of your shots will be 25 yds or less with informal target shooting or plinking, those cast bullets will be fine. If you are working for target groupings and more percise loadings, look for another supplier.
