Marlin 336-- 30.30 cycling problems

A friend of mine has a 336 that will not cycle. I am by no means a gunsmith. Just thought I would pick your brains a bit. When ever the rounds are cycled through, the lever gets stuck in the down/open position, but only when the gun is being cycled upright. If you tilt the gun to the right it will cycle though all day long. He and I are thinking that there is possibly something damaged that is affecting the loadgate.........Ideas?

I had a problem with mine doing the same thing. What I found was that I wasn't working the lever fast enough. Trying to do it slowly would cause a jam every time. Give it a good quick snap, and everything went smoothly.

I don't know if that's what's wrong with yours, but it's easy to check out.

It sounds like your loading gate screw is loose. That will bind it up, and tilting the gun to the right would make a loose screw on that side able to go down enough for clearance.

Over the years I have had a few that did the same thing. I agree, with out looking at it, I would say the loading gate screw is loose.

Check all the screws. The loading gate or the ejector screw are good places to start. I had the same problem and it was the ejector screw.
