500 s&w

Just ordered die set and bullets. Will be reloading for the infamous smith and wesson 500, full length barrel.

I was considering considering IMR4227 with the 375gr barnes XPB bullet.

Just wanted to get your thoughts and considerations for reloading this round.
I know i need large rifle primers, check, i know i need a heavy roll crimp, check, and i know i need to check bullet creep after each round fired when first shooting these reloads. Any other "need to knows" or "watch out fors"?

I have never reloaded the 500 but the IMR 4227 works well in 357 and 44 mag.
I prefer 2400 in 44mag over the IMR but the IMR IMHO is a great second.

I use IMR4227 for my .460 mag and .44 mag loads. Very consistent and very accurate, especially in the long piped revolvers and carbines. You also cannot get enough of it in a case to be overpressure. My most accurate loads are generally just at or slightly over compressed.

I've been using 39.0 gr of H110 with Berry's 350 gr bullet and large rifle primer. Has a nice kick, but nothing I would say is bad. The flame and noise is a different story. You will get a crowd at your port asking what your shooting.

I use Li'l Gun with some heavy bullets by Rick Gibson (600-700 grains).

Forgot to come back and update....

Loaded 36gr of imr4227 with barnes 375 xbp bullets. No creep, no issues. Nailed a steel plate at 50yrds with those suckers. 2 out of 5 at 50 yrds....yea, id say its an accurate load. Btw, that was standing, no pistol rest, no scope. Ill be reloading many more of those rounds. Very pleased!

36 gr h110, leadheads 440 gr cast w/ gc. 1506 fps, or accurate 5744 37 gr to 1336fps. good stuff, will end any argument with any creature!
