BAR is the only one I have ever used. Those little Remington's made on the AR platform are intresting, wouldn't mind getting my hands on the 7mm08 but dang if they aren't pricey.

The only semi-auto deer rifle I like is the older BAR, not the new one. They still make the older BAR.

For a rifle that carries good and shoots reliably, the Browning BAR is tough to beat.

Warbirdlover, that's right we still can't use inline muzzleloaders in black powder season that follows rifle season, and 2 yrs ago was the first for crossbows. It's illegal to even carry a semi auto pistol with you when you're hunting!

MI had a crazy rule about no handguns while BOWhunting. That started in the early 70s. Finally got rid of that when CCW became much more popular.
DNR thinks if they ban something it will save deer etc. |

Yo Warbird:
"The only semi-auto deer rifle I like is the older BAR, not the new one. They still make the older BAR."
Can you elaborate? Not familiar with the difference....I like Brownings, though. JB

I talked to a local game warden last year about semi auto rifles and he laughed and said, "If you wanna walk through the woods and have a full clip coming at you, or coming through your house that's your choice, but it'll never happen in pa"
They're convinced that every cleadus will get one and when they see anything move they'll unload on it, that's their reasoning. |

For deer;
In a "military rifle" it's a light weight AR-15 in 6.8 SPC. In a "Sporting rifle" it's the Browning BAR in 270 winchester. For Elk; M-1 Garand. FN-FAL and again the Browning BAR in 270 (or larger caliber) |

I've owned two BARs, in 7mm and 308. Wish I still had the 308, at a 1970 price of $299.
