I'd like to know year of manufacture of a pre-Model 10 Smith & Wesson Military & Police .38 Special revolver.

Serial number is S 864XXX. It has the hammer safety block, so it is not pre-WWII as I would have thought.

I bought it at a pawn shop, and it had some old "10-Point" rubber stocks on it and finish wear patterns that denote a lot of years in some cop's holster. I'd like to know original type stocks that came on it. I've found a set of Magna style with the diamond around the screw escutcheon, but I know S&W put these on until the mid-sixties.

Any information greatly appreciated. All the best,
Johnny

I only have a quick reference guide here serial numbers S 811120 - S 999999 were dated from 1945 - 1948. So I would suspect it was later during that period.
