Remington Model 10 Ejector Spring

Would someone please reach in the back of the closet and get out granddad's old Model 10 and answer a question for me. Open the action and look up in the very top of the receiver for the long ejector spring, mounted in the cutout area, going fore and aft.
Is the foreward part of the spring (nearest the barrel) pointed up and touching the top of the receiver, or is it pointing down (towards the breech block/shell caseing?
My father gave me this gun many years ago and the spring was broken. No luck finding a new spring. Bought a parts gun and the spring in it was also broken. Numrich finally had some made and I got one. It's a real bear to install. The gun still dosen't eject correctly and I'm wondering if I might have put the spring in upside down. Any opinions greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. Turned the spring over and it ejects properly. Strange looking arrangement with the spring hanging down, appearing to be in the way of everything that's going on inside.

Yes, but the pressure on the toe of the spring also helps guide the bolt into locking position.
