Who enjoys reloading more or as much as shooting
I just got back from the range and shot my first reloads from my newly set up Dillon 650.
I must confess, I think I enjoy the reloading more than the actual shooting. There is something therapeutic about it. I'm listening to the sound of the brass cleaner cleaning the brass, im listening to the auto primer feeder running, the auto brass feeder feeding the brass, I'm in my newly set up reloading room having a beer, listening to music, deciding on a new recipe for 9mm. Sooooo relaxing and enjoyable. When I was at the range, I kept picking up my brass and getting brass that fell into my area that other people discarded. I almost enjoyed scavenging brass as much as the shooting. It's a great hobby. And while I figured that I save on ammunition at a rate of about 30% - 50% (my reloads cost about $8 per 50 rounds, versus $15-19 factory), I realize that saving money is only an excuse to justify this great hobby. In the long run, we spend way more on supplies and doodads and knick knacks for this hobby. Ahhhhh, but it's so awesome. Any one enjoy reloading as much as I do? |

Ok, you load and we'll shoot.
Can't get any happier than that.

Re: Who enjoys reloading more or as much as shooting
I'd say they're about equal.
I'll go through phases where I like one just a tad more than the other but it all balances out. I spend way too much on reloading stuff lol Ike |

I like them both about equal, although I reload more than I shoot. The stash just keeps growing. There is nothing wrong with relaxing and having a beer, sounds like a good idea. It's not a good idea to mix having a beer with reloading though.

I LOVE to shoot my guns. The smell of burning powder, the feel of the recoil, the sight of holes in my target going where I want them. There's no better stress relief.
Just getting into "rolling my own" & looking forward when I can let my first loads fly. |

I see reloading as a necessary evil. My dad shot bench rest when I was growing up and I got stuck loading all his match ammo. I hated it then and dont like it much better now.

What I enjoy, is shooting my reloads. There is a feeling of independence to be able to head to the garage anytime I want, load up some ammunition and head to the range. I don't have to go to the store and I save a ton of money. Plus there is a personal satisfaction of producing my own ammunition that functions properly.

I like to reload it is a cool hobby in itself. Though if I didn't like shooting more I doubt I would reload. I'm an equipment and do it yourself person so reloading is a natural fit.
I have tons of things to keep myself busy so finding time to reload gets to be harder. When I am reloading I like to spend some time just hanging out in my reloading building. Having unlimited space is cool. |

I enjoy both.
I like building and testing my own loads, and many days find reloading a way to relax and wind down a bit from daily stresses. Right now, I reload for all my centerfires (shot shells excluded), and haven't purchased factory ammo in 2-3 years. If I had the money available (gonna get that winning lotto ticket one if theses days, right?), I would still reload for my less common calibers and do some specialty type stuff for the rest, but I would be shooting a whole lot more factory ammo through my more common caliber firearms..............I still prefer shooting to reloading any day.

I'd say it's a 3-way split between casting my own bullets, reloading them and shooting them... Casting is just another facet of the shooting hobby. Now if I could only make powder, primers & brass

It used to be fun, but now it's more like work.
More necessary than enjoyable. Must be due to the old, creaky joints complaining. If I was wealthy, I'd buy all my ammo and pay someone to clean the guns. But I ain't, so the reloading will continue.

I am with you. I go back into reloading because I was stressed in job which was dealing with people, money, and paper all day long. I got the reloading stuff out after nearly 30 years of being boxed up from a couple of moves. I love the math, measuring and just plain old planning and tinkering that has to be done.

I reload because I shoot, and I shoot because I reload! One in the same to me. I do enjoy both parts of the hobby.
There are days that I really want to get out and reload(to get away from the family and be in my own "zen" if you will), almost like therapy! I unfortunately had to buy ammo off the shelf last year(because I didn't have enough .380acp reloaded) on a last minute shooting trip with a lady I work with......damn I was amazed at the price of boxed ammo.....I hadn't done that in four years!

Enjoy it as much, The fun of worken up loads, finden that one that works best for your gun and then the magic of those groups shrinking and shrinking. lol I've only been at it a short time, the first time I went to the range with the finished ammo, and they were shooting in nice little groups, I was like a 5yo again gigglen my head off at what I'd done. I can easily spend hours doing either shooting or loaden. Well and if I spend hours shooting I will need to spend hours loaden works out nicely.

I beg your pardon

I do not load while eating. Loading while drinking is seldom done. I am not much interested in contaminating my food or drink with any primer dust, powder, bullet lube or lead. Also, loading may or may not be as demanding of your attention as driving, but I would no more load with a beer in hand than drive with one. (I will grant you that while driving, you are not in sole control of events (other drivers, etc) as much as you are when loading, but any alcohol, antihistamines, pain medication, etc that can influence your memory or attention is strictly off limits at my loading bench. By all means crack open a cold one after you box up the finished product, wash your hands and change clothes. Enjoy the glow of a job well done. Good luck, Lost Sheep |

For me, each gives it's own feeling of satisfaction.
Shooting to me is comparable to riding, it's a great way to get some space, clear my head and there's just a proud feeling of accomplishment when you can shoot a great group or hit your mark again and again at a few hundred yards away. Loading also gives me a feeling of satisfaction, knowing that I'm not completely dependent on stores for ammo and more importantly that I'm mastering a craft that takes a lot of skill and care to do right. And it also clears my head to pull some levers, measure powder, seat bullets, measure OALs... The list goes on. Kinda like doing your own engine work, your in charge Both are fun to me... Except trimming and chamferring hundreds of 223 cases for my AR in a sitting can't wait for my CTS trimmer to arrive.. |

I enjoy both, love the satisfaction of shooting my own reloads and seeing how well I can make my guns shoot. Reloading is a great hobby, when it is cold and snowing or the temperature is over 90 I can stay in the air conditioned house and reload. When the weather is decent I go to the range and shoot.

I find a certain satisfaction from loading ammo tuned to my guns and the way I shoot. I don't think shooting would be anywhere near as much fun if I didn't roll my own...

Can't always shoot when ever I would like. My reloading bench does help occupy my spare time on those occasions. It's actually pretty good therapy in relieving stress too.

I like both equal amounts. There's just something awesome about making your own round that function perfectly, and making a 5-shot group no bigger than a dime from a 7mm RM to completely give you an adrenaline rush and complete satisfaction in a job well done.
