Precision Delta JHPs

I purchased some .45 JHP from Precision Delta assuming I was getting self-defense bullets but have sense been told by a buddy that they are not. Can anyone else confirm this?

Precision Delta, out of Ruleville, MS, is a company that has been serving the law enforcement community for three decades. It originally began as an outfit that remanufactured (reloaded) ammo for police training and has since moved on to selling their own newly manufactured ammo and and Winchester LE ammo. It's a great little company and I've shot cases of it (dare I say pallets of it?) over nearly 30 years as a deep-South cop.

The only .45 ACP hollowpoint I see listed in their product line is their P45185, which is newly manufactured ammo with a 185 grain jacketed hollow point bullet. They claim that it is made to SAAMI specs, but they don't tout it as "self-defense" ammo. But, hey, it's a .45 hollowpoint so I'm fairly certain that it would suffice nicely as SD ammo. I'd have no problem using it in SD mode, and I've known the company long enough to trust their product.

They don't look much like personal defense bullets. They are JHP, but there are no scores or cuts in the jacket where it folds over the mouth of the opening, so expansion likely wouldn't be as rapid or as effective as that of the purpose-built personal defense bullets.

I reckon the only way to find out for sure would be to load up a dozen or so and shoot them into a big box stuffed with wet newspaper.

That's the same one I was looking at in my earlier post. It's a .45 hollowpoint, and while it isn't touted as a "self-defense" bullet, I'm willing to bet that if you put one or two between the water and the wind, if he doesn't fall over, he'll wander off looking for an emergency room.

^^^that's kinda my take on it. I'd be more concerned with how reliable they feed and how accurately they shoot outta my weapon. Jacket thickness and core hardness affects expansion as much as pretty little cuts designed to make perfect petals.

+1 on this. They will work fine in a SD role.
