Tokarev Flash!

Also posted on The High Road

Got my Romanian TTC Tokarev out to the backyard creek today. Was shooting Prvi Partisan 7.62x25mm 85 gr. FMJ rounds. It was getting dark, and the pistol was making a very large muzzle flash! Here is a quick video I took of the action:

What fun! This is a really outstanding pistol. It has a good trigger, and the recoil is surprisingly light considering how hot and potent the high velocity round is. It's just downright comfortable and enjoyable to shoot. I am currently ordering a case of ammo for it. While the ammo isn't as cheap as it used to be, it's still worth it IMHO.

These are still available for cheap, and I recommend them! Thanks!

A large muzzle flash is impressive, but really indicates wasted powder which is burning outside the barrel.* A lot of 7.62 Toke and 9mm Para has a large muzzle flash in a pistol because it was loaded for use in SMGs with their longer barrels.

*And in some cases is not good as it tells everyone in the county where the gun is and makes the shooter a nice visible target.

Try it again in the dark.
Even more fun.
There's lots of conversations about what ammo is more effective, but muzzle flash can have an effect on how well the shooter does, especially when the bad guys are out and trouble is most likely to happen.

"A large muzzle flash is impressive, but really indicates wasted powder which is burning outside the barrel."

Not necessarily.

It can also be an indication that the propellant gas is leaving the muzzle at such a temperature that it forms a plasma.

I find the Tok a useful pistol. Excellent trunk gun...inexpensive, compact and reliable. Able to both reach out to 100yds, and punch through a bad guys car.
I've carried one backpacking, and felt very well armed.

No denying the Tokorev (Commie 1911) is a great pistol, almost indestructable and totally reliable, throws an empty into the next sector of the battlefield and would knock over a German PzkIV and two soldiers beyond, but what is the attraction?

I might accept a PzkwI but not a IV.

CZ52

The Russian icepick, they are fun. I think I paid 98 bucks for my 52, it looks unissued.

I call it the pistol that thinks it's a rifle.
