10mm Magnum

Greetings,
I am about ready to have a 1911 Goverment model built and was going to have it done in 10mm.
Then I heard something about a 10mm MAGNUM...
I checked, and Starline sells 10mm magnum brass.
Hmmm...
What can you tell me about this cartridge?

The main thing you need to know about the 10mm Magnum is that it was brought out by IAI for one of the Automags. It is loaded to an OAL of 1.555" and is therefore considerably too long for a 1911's magazine or slide stroke.

It was for the Automag V or VI, if I remember correctly.

The gun was a failure, and the cartridge pretty much died with it.

Yeah, I wonder who is buying enough brass that it was worth Starline's while to tool up for it.

It was chambered in the IAI/AMT AutoMag IV, which is also offered in .45 Winchester Magnum. However, the 10mm Magnum variant died a fairly quick death, as did the AutoMag III in 9mm Win Mag.

FWIW: I've heard of folks converting the S&W 610 revolver to take the longer cartridge.

PS: Starline has been the source of 10mm Magnum brass from the cartridge's introduction.
