gopher shooting

has any of you guys ever went on a gopher shoot, I was watching roger ragland yesterday and I think they were in colorado, the gophers were everywhere!! they totally destroyed this farmers field. you can sit there and burn a barrel out if you wanted!! cant remember what caliber, but when they would hit a gopher it would just about explode! 22-250,220 swift,223,204 which one would be the best??

Gopher

I would say the rifle you are most comfortable with. I am pretty sure people will give me a hard time for this. But for me. I would take either my .17 HMR, or .223. The .223 will get the out there 3-400 yards. I would use .17 up to 200, and focus on head shots. just for fun. I love my .223 though, and the .17 is just plain ol' fun. w/ 20 grain game tips and all head shots, they will drop. However .22-250, .220 swift, .222, .223, .243. 270. all would do well. Shoot some people will use a .308 even it's not like your going out for bear. That's why I say find your favorite rifle, and the load you are most accurate with, and just have some fun.

It seems like propane would just burn the fur off of them.

If they are really allowed to use Explosives farmers probably already have some extra Ammonium Nitrate and Fuel Oil lying around...

Been using .222 Reminton for gophers for the past 30 odd years. 52 gr Sierra HP on top of IMR4198 @ 19.3gr.
try it, you'll like it!

I believe it kills by taking the oxygen from the air and incinerating the linings of their lungs.
