Love me some P95...

Saw another thread where a member was displeased w/ Ruger and that's ok. I cannot argue against someone else's experiences or line of thinking. I can tell you this, I love my Ruger P95!

Beautiful? to me it is.

Will the hand of God come down and say this is the best damn gun ever made? Gonna say no.

Does it "fit my hand like a glove"? More like a brick.

I can say, that mine has shot a wide variety of ammo (factory) with no problems thus far and that I can shoot this more accuratly at defense range (10 yards) rapid fire than any other hand gun I've owned. ( Note: I'm note saying it is the most accurate hand gun, I'm saying I shoot it more accurately than any other hand gun when shooting fast.)

Just wanted to put in a good word without hijacking a thread. YMMV.

BTW, Bill Ruger did design the P95 for the masses. Glad he did. Great protection I can afford.

I've made similar comments about the P95 in the past. In general, my shooting experience with the P95 has indicated that while 25yd accuracy is not a strong suit of the pistol, for whatever reason, it comes back on target very fast for me. I find that it is very easy to dump a full mag as fast as I can manipulate the trigger without having shots stray out of a group of "practical size" at typical handgun self-defense range.

That, in combination with its rock-solid reliability make it a good choice for a home self-defense handgun.

Love me some P95...

Got a lot of respect for the P95. I had one.... Until I had my wife out shooting it. Now she has it.

Mec-Gar Magazines

Yes, the 17-round Mec-Gar's do indeed fit flush.

I own (2) P95's myself. I think they are beautiful but not because of the aesthetics. They are beautiful like an AK-47 is. Simple design, rugged, go bang every time, inexpensive, etc.

No doubt about it, the P95 is a good, reasonably inexpensive pistol. It just didn't do much for me. I am not a fan of polymer frames or composite stocks. I guess I am just too old to change now, but I prefer wood, steel, and blue. I do have a couple of poly CC guns, but the P95 is IMO too big to CC. I am glad that you are happy with your P95 though. Enjoy it.

I've got the P94 and it's reliability is flawless. Even fired a box of WWB that had been sitting in the offshore boat for about 10 years. If things ever go South, it's the handgun I'll grab. I KNOW it will go bang every time.

Sho 'nuff

Yes, I also "love me some P95".

Despite the many minor drawbacks, it has many advantages that outweigh the negatives for my uses.

Adding the Hogue handall made a huge difference. Just love that pistol. It will be a sad day if Ruger decides to drop it from their line.

Seems to me the accuracy has a lot to do with the ammo being run through it. The groups were much better when I was testing HP rounds compared to run of the mill FMJ. Fiocchi 124gr FMJ seems to be about the best of the FMJ bunch in the P95 so far. Nice groups, close to what I get with Hornady HP.

About mags, the Mec-gar's fit&funtion fine. The base plate has a slightly larger gap to frame than the Ruger mags, but they have been 100% reliable for me.

I also have some pro-mag mags. Not so happy with those straight out of the box. The follower required some machining to get to full function(Fail To Feed on last round). Replaced another pro-mag follower with a follower from a ruger mag, and that also brought the pro-mag to full function. Good enough for plinking, but I suggest avoiding them for a duty pistol.

Had one for several years, one of the 2 semi autos that never had a jam. It was very accurate but also very hard to shoot accurately due to a heavy trigger pull and light weight gun. Kinda wish I still had it.

I loved my P95. Was not a CC weapon, but for a night stand, vehicle or just a fun range firearm it is LOVELY.

Parting with it was hard. Never had a problem with her and will always recommend them.

Thanks for chiming in!

Yep, I love the P95. Lost my first one after the big "D" (and I don't mean Dallas). Just had to get another. Not letting this one go.

All replies were cordial and respectful, even by those few who do not completely share my enthusiasim. Thank you.

Just wanted to share a positive experience with a great American made firearm.

Regards,

Assuming 6.8's question relates to the above comment, the ruger follower is not a smooth fit in the promag carcass. It tends to have a bit more friction at the top of the magwell. Probably bit of light filing on the sides of the folower would make it fit better. It has fed the last round, but once in a while the follower end up not-quite-flush. Just have not used the mag enough to think it will always be 100%.

But its still better than the original promag follower. That would either jam the last round or lock back without feeding the last round.

I love my Rugers, and love the P series a lot too. Got myself a few, but don''t shoot 'em much any more.

P95 is a great gun. Tank tough and very reliable. They shoot amazingly soft.
