Do you really need maritime spring cups for your Glock?

Will your Glock fire underwater without them? Are they just a gimmick?

Don't cheat. Make your prediction before you watch the video.

Can't think of a scenario where I would need to fire a Glock underwater.

The spring cups only allow the striker to move more freely in the channel full of water. W/o them the hydraulic pressure of the striker moving forward slows it to the point it may not hit the primer hard enough.

If it goes bang it will cycle. The point of the H2O spring cup is to get it to go bang

You're serving ice cream at the pool party for your kid's birthday when Bigfoot tackles you and knocks you into the pool, dragging you to the bottom. You have only moments before the hairy beast cracks your skull open against the bottom of the pool.

As I understand it, what you've described is part of the Bigfoot mating ritual. That hairy beast is probably a SHE not a he, and it may not be your skull that gets banged against the bottom of the pool.

A handgun that fires underwater might be useful, but other forms of protection may be called for in this case.

In order to get it to fire consistently under water, you need the maritime cups and a stronger firing pin spring which comes with the kit. I bought this for my Glock 17 years ago. No reason, just felt I needed it!

Oh, well that's easy. Glocks are useful pretty much any time someone wants to actually carry and shoot their gun, rather than wrap it lovingly in a soft cloth and whisper lullabies to it once a week when it is removed from the safe for its weekly anti-corrosion treatment.

Bought a whole bunch of IVI Mil Speck 9mm one time 300,000 rounds, primers were hard! Stronger spring would have helped, we just tenderized the primers. Tedious, but it worked.

Guess how much? 1c a round Canadian.

...or you serve in the US Navy or Coast Guard. Or work the boat for a major metro PD/Sheriff's department such as Miami-Dade. It isn't so much about shooting underwater as much as being able to shoot it immediately after immersion, and without clearing the weapon before firing.

I like experiments and, while I thought this was just silly nonsense initially, I changed my mind immediately after realizing I won't always stay dry in the sea kayak, and may need a fully-functioning weapon after getting dunked.

It also highlighted the fact that it's been well over a year since I took either my G20 or G29 apart, and I really had no earthly idea what a 'spring cup' was.

All my Glocks have the maritime cups. That and NY-1/3.5 lb connectors. All of 'em.

No, I don't plan on shoot it underwater but I felt allowing air to pass the striker would speed it up a bit and help reduce any chances of a misfire or hangfire with bad ammo.

Being able to fire them underwater is a bonus.

After all folks, these ARE combat guns, right?

Uh why would my glock or any other gun be under water? Sure I lost a rod on the river this weekend from my kayak, but I still had 2 up top and 3 below deck.

How stupid can one get???

Allegedly, they seem immune to donut glaze infiltration anyway.

I prefer one of the following politically incorrect names for my Glock 17:

"Assault Handgun"
"IDM (Instant Death Machine)"
"Infinite Capacity Handgun"
"Widow and Orphan maker"
"Black Plastic Buzz Saw"
"The Punisher's Punisher"
"Bomb-proof Bullet Hose"
"The Chosen Handgun"

Don't shoot the Sasquatch, it's illegal in several states ! Use your ice cream to entice the primates out of the pool before their long fur clogs the filters.

IIRC - in past threads on underwater Glocks, it was stated that they were in common use for divers in Australia for shark defense.

There used to be zillions of underwater Glock threads.

Now someone will ask if you can shoot a Glock in space. Remember those?
