CFE223

Man I just found a pound of this powder at the big box lgs. I couldnt believe it, I have been waiting to try this for a good year, or whenever it came out. Anyways, I want to use it for what its best suited for since I probably won't get anymore for awhile. And yes, it was the only pound they had, and for only 24$. I load the whole spectrum of weights in .223, but what is this best for. I see data for everything from nosler 40gr to 77gr smk. I have heard this is better suited for heavies, bit just curious what others use with good results. I would like to go with the 75gr amax. Bit if its good for the varmint rounds I would just as much like to play with those too.

I have never used it, but if you are looking for more of it, the new Cabelas in Acworth had some as of yesterday as well as Varget. If you decide to make the trip, might want to call them right before you go and have them check stock.

Here is a thread with good info.

I really like CFE223 with 55-62gr bullets. Use a magnum/bench rest primer, though. It gives better, more consistent velocities with mag primers.

The grand opening was at the end of August. They have a good supply of reloading gear, but at a price. I dream of the day when I can walk in there and see bottles of HP-38 and 2400 with dust on them next to a pallet of CCI 22LR. Not holding my breath!

I finally found some at my LGS. Bought a pound to try and cooked up some 55 SGK loads with it. No chrono readings yet because I only bother to chrono my most accurate loadsbut the best load for accuracy was better than my previous go to powder (benchmark) at mid level. Good stuff. Will be buying more.

I've used it with 55s, 62s, and 69 grain bullets in my AR's. On the 55s and 62's I had better luck with Varget and Tac but with the 69's it shot just as accurately if not better than Varget. This was out of a 24" 1/8 twist stainless bull barrel.

I just finished shooting 2 lbs of CFE223 with Berger # 22408 52 grain bullets and Sierra Match King 52 and 53 grain bullets. It shot right up there with N130, N133 and H335 powders.
I was impressed.

I didn't notice that it was any cleaner than the other powders but it did perform well.

My 1:9 CZ 527 .223 shoots 52/53 grain bullets better than anything else although it also shoots Nosler 40 gr ballistic tip bullets well also. I only had two pounds so I didn't get to try it with 55 grain or 40 grain bullets.

I've gone through more than 5 pounds of CFE 223 in the last year. I load CFE in .223 Rem, 50 to 53 grain bullets; .25 Remington in 120 grain bullets; 250AI in 87 and 100 grain bullets; and I'm currently working up loads in 219 Zipper in 40 and 45 grain bullets. My local gunsmith has a large supply in one and five pound units.

It seems to do it's best with 55 to 62 grain bullets, at least that was my results.
