Is Para USA Still in business?
I am interested in a Para 1911 after my buddy let me shoot his Para Expert. I read on TTAG and a few other places that Para USA is dissolving and being completely remingtonized. Is this still the plan? They made the announcement last February and their website is still up and their products still sold at gander mtn and Cabelas. I'm confused.

Remington has ended production and sales of ParaUSA pistols. All remaining parts have been sold, apparently mostly to Sarco and Numrich. Remington has said that they intend to resume production of the double stack 1911s, but there has been no word (that I'm aware of) regarding just when that might actually happen.

Ditto on CDNN. They are a liquidator so they will have them.
I picked up a great deal on one of their stainless 1911's around Christmas last year, I guess they were starting the liquidation then. Took it out today for a spin and it ran great. And I love my Warthog I picked up used. |

nobody knows for sure, but i have heard that remington bought para ordnance, and will produce a few para designs. i have heard good things about the remington 1911, but have heard bad things about current remington produced 870's, 700's, marlin 336's, and marlin guide guns 45-70's

Para is no more. Also Remington has had a very bad quality reputation in recent years. They also came out with the Remington R51 which was a great gun 50 years ago but they had to recall all the new designed guns for quality and safety reasons. The new Marlins are not even close to the older well made Marlin guns before Remington bought them. Also their Gold Tip .22 ammo is awful. I have guns that run just about any other .22 ammo fine but they just jam or fail to fire the Remington ammo. If you can't tell, I am no longer a Remington customer.

If you want PARA products, go to SARCO's website.
They start at $299...nice price on those LDA shorty's

We also know for certain that Remington has said they will -- eventually -- again produce the Para double-stack pistols, probably under the Remington name. What's not certain is when (or if) that might actually happen. As to hearing good things about the Remington 1911s -- that's not what I've been seeing on 1911-related forums. Remington apparently can't even machine the frame bridge correctly. I would never consider buying one. |

If the new Remington shotguns aren't so hot, there must be tons of older used ones on the market.

Agree- avoid the Express models.
Otherwise, 870s are good to go. Denis |

If you go with a Remington 870 go with the 870P.

Production numbers surpassed 10 million a couple years ago. That's a lot of guns. |

Sarco has some parts you can order to assemble a gun.
CDNN has a few Para models left for sale. |

How did Para get dragged into this? Para made 1911s, and Para was bought up by Freedom/Remington, who then killed off Para. Don't go blaming Remington's newest stinker on Para. |

Curious to know of those bashing para, how many actually own(ed) one. I have 4 and wouldn't trade for anything out there in their price range. All are reliable and accurate. Not saying para didn't have issues but they all do. Kimber, rock, springer, Taurus etc. para made some very utilitarian pistols at very good prices. I don't think any of their issues were insurmountable. Before freedom they were very responsive to repairs.
Agree w Aquila, para had NOTHING to do with the r51 or any other Remington. |

I examined a camo 6" 10mm para elite hunter at my LGS about a year ago--I don't have any 1911's--but if I did it would be exactly like it. they wanted $1200 and that was just too far out of my range--but likely well worth it. Bummer remmie has absorbed it--the shop told me remie was going to continue making them, my response would be "looks good, you go first." : )

I gained the same info about Remington sending Para to the dirt hotel, unfortunately that starts the Rem bashing all over by mostly those who have not invested in a Remington product in years. I happen to have a couple of R1's, one early cast frame and one later forged frame..both shoot flawlessly, also recently bought a RM 380 for a truck gun and several hundred punnishing rounds later (not a soft shooter) it too has passed without a malfunction of any kind.
So my experience with Remington in the past few years is with their pistols which are nicely made and reliable ( but what is that ugly RM 380 finish?). |

I have never owned one but will fully admit that I have always been one to steer people away from them. Para has always used marginal quality parts to the point where I've read that many smiths don't want to work on them. |
