handloading problem

I am new to handloading and have followed the Speer manual. I have loaded 115 FMJ 9mm using 4.5 gr Bullseye powder. This is the max load according to the manual, but occasionally the round jams on ejection. I have no problems with factory ammo on either my XD-9 or Sig 226, but my handloads occasionally fail to cycle the slide. Is it wise to increase the amount of powder, if so how much?

Try checking your cartridge over all length against factory ammo. I would not increase charge until you have solved the cycling problem.

Alliant shows a maximum load for 9mm P 115 gr FMJ at
Bullseye 5.0 gr 1,180 fps 31,000 psi

I think you could increase your load a bit IF everything else is right.

Accurate Arms says European 9mm autos are not "balanced" for fast burning powder and may not run well with anything but full charges. But that is not a license to overload.

Me? I load HS6 at below 9mm maximum and all guns function.
