New scope
I'm debating what kind of scope 2 put on my savage axis 270... I'm debating between the redfield revolution mil dot or the vortex crossfire dead hold bdc or possibly Leopold vari X 3 for the right price... Any firsthand experience with any of the above would be awesome

I've owned all 3 at various times. The better Vortex scopes are good, but there are better options @ the $200 mark. The VX-3 is a better scope than the others, but will be closer to $500 than $200 like the others. The Redfield is a good scope for the money and I prefer it over the Vortex.
Selling right at $200 or a bit more my top 2 picks are the Burris FF-II or a current production Leupold VX-1. If you are looking at a VX-1 made prior to 2011 I'd take the Redfield Revolution instead, but after 2011 the Leupold is a better scope. The Nikon Buckmaster and Vortex Diamondback are in the running and are decent scopes, with excellent clear glass. I just prefer features on the others better. I've owned some expensive scopes, high end Zeiss and Leupold etc. The $300 VX-2 is all the scope any hunter ever needs. Even with the money to buy more expensive glass I can't see me ever needing more, and I could be happy with the Burris or VX-1. I can't think of anything priced under $200 I'd recommend. The Nikon Prostaff @ around $150 isn't a bad scope, but the $200 options are well worth the extra money. |

When did redfield come out with a mildot in the revolution line I can't seem to find it.
As to the OP I had a redfield for a while and thought it was fantastic. The vx3's are def better though. VX2's might be a good compromise? |
