.243 twist

What is the proper twist to shoot Sierra's 55 BK or Hornady's 58 V-MAX out of the 243 Winchester? With the proper twist for the 55 or 58 grain bullets will i be able to properly shoot the 85 grain bullets or the 95 grain bullets?

Factory twist for 243 in factory rifles is usually 1:10". Unless you are building a custom target rifle to shoot that bullet exclusive of all others, I would stick with the factory twist.

If you only care about accurately shooting the 55s and 58s, go with a 1-14" twist, but you won't stabilize anything much heavier than 70gr.

If you want to use bullets up to about 85-90gr, go with a 1-12" twist.

If you want to use everything from 55gr to 100gr, just go with the standard 1-10" twist .

Thanks for the help. What rifle would you recommend chambered for the 243 Winchester that has a 26" barrel?

I would recommend Ruger Target Grey- 243 Win, 26" bbl

I'm just partial to controlled feed bolt action rifles.
