I don't own anything but revolvers, so if I'm going to carry something it has to be one. Until recently I carried a Smith & Wesson Model 12-2, Airweight, 38 Special.
That one has been retired to "safe queen" status, and these days I carry a Smith & Wesson 442, 38 Special.

I am an over-the-hill senior citizen, what else would you expect?

I'll pocket carry a LCR .38 occasionally, usually when I don't feel like putting on pants (that have a belt). Light enough to carry in athletic shorts or sweat pants, or my robe on weekend mornings.
I'll also carry one in the field, a GP100 or Vaquero in .357, or a Redhawk in .44 if the 4 legged critters get big enough. Most days, though, I carry an autoloader. |

I carry a Chiappa Rhino 4" barrel in a Kangaroo Carry shoulder holster set to ride low over my belt. Cabana shirt conceals it nicely. I'm thinking on getting some long polo shirts. I'm also thinking on rotating the holster to the opposite side so it's not cross draw.

S&W 642-2 Airweight 38 sp. I normally carry a 6 ounce 380, but I like revolvers better, so I carry one sometimes.

I've carried various revolvers for years, far more so than automatics.

For a variety of reasons, I just (in the last three weeks) got rid of my only semi-autos (a pair of Glock 26's)....in favor of my wheel guns. So, now I carry a Ruger SP101 (2.25" barrel, 357 mag) as my primary EDC. I carry a K-frame S&W (3" Model 10) sometimes.
I've had about 16 different handguns in the last 4 - 5 years, both revolvers and semi-autos. I've hand loaded all my ammo for these, including 38 Spl, 357 mag, 9mm, 45 acp. I started with revolvers and 38 Special....and now I've come full circle back to them. I find that I just prefer loading 38/ 357.....and I prefer shooting and carrying revolvers. Many reasons for this, but I despise chasing brass - that is one big reason. Alas, I'm old.....so I guess I'm just old-fashioned, too. Note: These photos are not MY guns....they are only for illustration purposes. Many thanks to the photographers, whomever they are. Last edited by wpsdlrg; February 26, 2015 at 08:21 AM. |

Question was asked about the holster I use when carrying my Smith & Wesson Model 19 2-1/2 inch revolver, in my initial post. It's a Kirkpatrick, with elk suede lining. I think they are still in Laredo, TX. Good, thick, saddle leather holster. I also have one of theirs for my Glock 23.

When back packing I carry a Ruger Bisley 45LC with the barrel cut to 5.5 inches in a custom work over (with great big quick acquisition sights) by Hamilton Bowen of Louisville, TN. I load it with 225gr. Barnes all-copper HP.

I sometimes carry my Ruger SP101 (2.25" barrel, 357 mag). If not this one, I carry my Kimber.
I have a Galco owb holster which both fit in perfectly. Don't know how or why but it works. |

Revolvers are antiquated ancient machinery that is 100% guaranteed to get you killed because it doesn't have 18+1 rounds of .40 S&W, a tac rail with tac light, and most are not tactical flat tac black. Tac.
That's what most people seem to think these days, but after seeing this thread it appears there is still some sense in the world. I carry a S&W 642-1 No-Lock every day with a Barami hip grip with a silver Tyler T grip adapter. Nice looking package, hits hard enough, wonderfuly reliable, never have to worry if I racked a round in the chamber, don't have to worry about a safety of any sort, don't have to worry about bumping the mag release, don't have to worry period. I just load it up with 5 rounds of Speer GDSB 135 grain .38 special +P, and stuff that little sucker in my waistaband and cinch by belt snug. Stays in place all day, light as a feather, ready to rock and roll 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Yeah, it works for me, and I have absolutely no plans to change. |

Never, never leave home without my trusty 642 S&W. It is a very comfortable feel. Sometimes I carry a second gun, usually my Bond Arms Rustic Ranger derringer in .38/.357.

Here is the S&W 642 I mentioned in post #44 of this thread:
She rides with me everywhere I go. We're quite the team, if I do say so myself. |

How do the last 2 posters hang on to those things? My long fingers can't abide by those puny grips. Sorry, not to offend, just fact.
I occaisionally carry a Ruger SP101 3" .38 SPL with a Hogue monogrip with .38+P 129 gr. Federal Hydrashoks. Old school: yes! I'm old enough to not worry about being in a protracted gunfight, so 5 rounds is pretty much enough... (yeah, but what about that speedloader you keep in your side jacket pocket?) Oh, sorry... I failed to mention that! I like 1911 .45 Gummint Models best, but DA revolvers are pretty much no-brainers to use in the heat of things. Hardest thing is remembering how many shots you fired, and that is not as easy as one would think... in the heat of things... whereas 1911 pistols lock back on an empty mag and a new loaded 1911 mag is usually faster than a speedloader (unless you are Jerry Miculek). DA revolvers are great things.
