Ideal varmint bullet weight

Does anyone have any information as to preferred bullet weight intended for a varmint gun? I am chasing a hunch before I go a slightly different direction.

Is there a database or a website that has list the Ogive for most of the available projectiles?

What caliber are you asking about? The preferred bullet weight for a .243 varmint load probably won't match up well with one for a .223.

I like a 125gr bullet for varmint hunting with my .308. I rarely use it for varmint though, thats a job for my .223.

Is there a lower weight limit for a 308 bullet that would prove disagreeable with the rifling twist for varmint shooting?

Here is my issue. I have a Savage Varmint 308 and the throat is very shallow. I have been doing a load work up with 175MK. The problem, I think, is that when I seat the bullet deep enough to get the bullet out of the lands, it is past the neck-shoulder transition. I am using Lapua brass and I am afraid I have a donut issue. 60 percent of the groups are sub 1/2", while the others a plagued with a flyer.

My options are try a lighter bullet to keep it out of that donut area. Someone also suggested that the domestic brass tends to not get donuts.

I pretty happy with my results, but the OCD is nagging me to fix the problem.

Any thoughts?

In 308 I use 150gr for just about everything. I took my 300AACblackout with 110grs and it worked great but the wind we've had lately I'm thinking of going with 168.

Define Varmit.

Here in Texas we refer to Hogs as varmits. Some of them go 300 lbs.
