Cut Shells In Taurus Judge

My dad had a friend that used cut shells to kill cripple ducks long range.

Saw this video and sparked my couristy if you could use a "cut shell" in a Taurus Judge revolver?

My concern is the transition from cylinder to barrel.

If you could safely - it would carry a hell of a wallop.

Any thoughts?

Worth trying if you have a judge.
Or you could shoot a bullet from a .45lc.

I do have a Judge - before I tried it I wanted some feedback - guess I will dry fit a cut hull and see if it fits and take some caliper measurements first.

The jump from the cylinder to the barrel is what has me worried – no such issues with a shotgun – if the hull hangs on the barrel it would be messy.

What makes this interesting and more attractive than the 45 LC is that the cut shell should penetrate only about 3 inches then dump all of its energy into the target.

I tried this with a 410 single shot into gelatin and the result was devastating.

Bad idea. Stick to 45LC in one of the Cowboy loadings if you want less penetration but lots of stop.

I wouldnt do it, use a slug instead.

Yes, I too would be worried about the cylinder gap on that revolver. Ransom rest and a long length of cord behind cover?? Either way, I cannot wait to try this with my 590

Really bad (dumb?) idea. The .410 shell casing is .469 in diameter (it is the inside diameter that is .410), the Taurus bore is .451 (approx) to accomodate the .45 colt round. In addition, the Taurus is rifled (not much but...). Shove that large casing down the short rifled barrel and there will be significant gas escape if not an overpressure event. Taurus (Judges) do not take well to overpressure loads. Secondly, even if you could manage to get the rounds down the barrel, if this Judge were to ever be used in a defensive shooting - altering the .410 round to potentially increase its lethality is going to go against you in court. Just a bad idea! Actually, this whole cut-shell resurgence is just a bad idea.

I think this is super.

Can you video tape all of it?

I think the gun might blow up and if it does I'd like to see it. If it doesn't blow up then I think that's pretty cool.

If you have good quality face protection and heavy duty gloves, and don't mind possibly destroying your revolver for no good reason, go for it.

Otherwise, it's a horrible idea.

Cut shells were most likely inserted directly into the chamber of a barrel individually... Transition from seperate chamber to detached barrel don't sound like the wisest move and this comes from a guy who thought, as a kid, putting .22 rimfire on an electric stove burner wasn't too stupid.

yep, transistion from a cylinder to a barrell will be catastophic. Use a slug.

Cut shells were userd by poor folk had nothing eles to bring down deer and such. No real reason to use one now.

BAD BAD BAD BAD IDEA Just like shooting a 45 cal slug in a 44 cal barrel. Not a good thing to do to the gun. Make sure your life insurance is paid up if you do it.
