REM vs SAKO

Based on experience or reliable info I would like to have your input on Rem. Sendero in 300 Win. mag vs. Sako TRG 42 IN 300 Win. mag. I already have a Rem. Sendaro in 300 Win. mag and now considering the Sako. I found a new TRG at a reasonable price and strongly thinking about a new change. Got to love that long range shooting. Thank you Doug.

Are you feed-up with...

the battlefield accuracy & reliability and overall outstanding performance our troops and local LEO's are and have been getting from their Remington 700's since ~1970?

SAKO's are nice rifles. I want a few. A 308, 223, 300 mag, 338 Lapua...the list goes on.

considering the same, wasn't sure if there might be an advantage with the Sako. And yes the Rem. has served well and should be well respected for its performance and duty.

i shoot an ar30 in 300mag for informal target shooting. however in a 600yd nra hipower prone shoot aproximately 88 rounds are fired. 20 for score 2 for sighters, four different times. recoil becomes a problem for me and a lot of other shooters. some consideration of this situation would be appropiate! bobn

The SAKO is in a whole different class than the Remington. No contest.

Zak...

You are not kidding about an entirely difffernt class. Class dollars.

I have a question for you: How many 'Long Range' rifle shooters do you know who, right now, have a individual come-up chart for anyone of their long range rifle(s)? Not the one off an ammo manufatures website, but a real come-up chart, say in 50 & 100 yard incriments, in 4 different temperature zones, out to 1,000 yards? How about the British Wind rule? How about a rifle logbook with the number of rounds fired, rifle modifications and results? How many of us get to Angle shoot? How many long range shooters can BZO their rifle with confidence-right now? And this is just the begining. Now...

I wouldn't have much of clue to any of this if I hadn't had more than one friend who paved the way for me with Remingtons & Leupolds.

I own a 700 PSS and I want a SAKO. Every time I think about upgrading my 700 to a SAKO I think about all the fine shooting points I need to maintain & improve on. Not to mention ammo costs, range & travel expense and, and, the realization that I've yet to shoot up the capability of my 700 & M3. I'm humbled.

It's good to put this in perspective. A factory Remington 700 PSS will shoot MOA from the box with factory ammo. With a decent scope and the right ammunition, that's a 1000-yard gun.

Are there better rifles than Remingtons? Absolutely. Will better equipment make you a better shooter? No, but it can remove incremental performance impediments. And it pays off every time you pull the trigger.

As for charts... Notice anything common in all these pictures?

What?

I don't get it. No camouflage? Busted! Great pictures. Was the spotter taking the photos? What! No low light pictures? Angle firing...you lucky dog. Do you have the opportunity to fire from those same locations year around? You will need a bigger come-up/range card. What kind of results are you getting?

At 1,000 yards, I have a 4 MOA change from <45 degrees to >95 degree on level ground @ sea level with a 30 cal. 175 gr. bullet. Wind? Who said that?

We have a group of 15-20 serious long-range shooters in Colorado, those guys amongst us. All have a data card tailored for (or I might say, adequate enough for) the environment they are shooting currently in.

For example, I run data cards in increments of 1000-2000' Density Altitude change, so I only have to track that instesd of temp/baro/altitude/humidity/etc. I might have a set of 10 cards for a rifle that can take me from a cold day at sea level to a hot day in Raton NM. I can typically get by with a fewer number than that, also knowing that every 500' D.A. change is one 0.1mil click @ 1000 yards for my 308 load (for example).

We run regular matches in Raton NM, and Camp Guernsey WY, and practice NE of Denver. We've also shot long-range matches in TX, UT, and near Gillette WY.

Low light?

As for results, my shooting partner and I have measured sub-half-MOA groups from a AI-AWSM and a TRG-42 @ 940 yards.

Have the Sako TRGs held up well ? Do you feel that there is an advantage in using the Sako TRG over the Rem. Sendaro. Has anyone heard or experienced the differences or advantages between either one. thanks Doug

The SAKO TRG-42 is flat out a better rifle and a better rifle design than the Rem 700.

The TRG-42 (like the AI-AW) is a sniper weapons system that is meant to provide exceptional performance out of the box needing no gunsmithing, adjustments, fixes, etc.

My wife is from Finland so we spend most of our vacations there. My father in law got me a tour of the SAKO factory. The rifles they produce are awesome. When it comes to deciding what to purchase, the largest variable is the shooter. I consider myself to be a decent shot, and with the redsults from my handloads in my 700 PSS, there is no way I could justify buying a TRG. That being said, if I could afford one, I would have one in a heart beat!! JMO.

I have also been trying to justify the benefits of the SAKO over a remmy...its kinda hard when you look at the prices.
