6.5x257 Roberts

Do you know of any manf. that still sells the 6.5x257 dies ? Custom made ones are to expensive to make. This is a wildcat from the fifties that shoots great. I reload them now improvising a 6.5 Swed die but can't full size them. htshot

call RCBS they will fix you up. If nothing else send them three three fired cases and they will make you a set of dies for a little extra $$$.

I bought a RCBS set from Midway. They'll be cheaper at Midway than from RCBS. I got them a couple of years ago and I think I paid about $65-$70.

I buy Remington 257 brass and neck it up in the sizing die. My best results have been with IMR 4831 and Hornady 129 gr Interlock.

I'm very interested in this chambering as an alternative to 6.5x55 Swede.

This was standardized in Europe, as a sporting round, not military surplus, so not widely known in the US

Be VERY careful and do a chamber cast before you proceed.

Most 6.5x.257 Roberts rifles in the United States are rechambered Japanese military rifles.

I've seen a number of these guns in the past and there can be CONSIDERABLE variation in chamber specs. depending on who did the reaming.

6.5X257 Roberts IS NOT the same as 6.5X57. The Roberts case has a 20*45' shoulder and a 1.912" datum measuremebt, as does the 6.5X257 Roberts, whereas the 6.5X57 has a 18*55' shoulder and a 1.941" datum measurement. They are not the same round!!

6.5X257 Roberts is a wildcat round designed in the 1950s, and 6.5X57 Mauser is one of the oldest rounds chambered by anyone (having been designed in 1895). Both are based on a necked down 7X57 case, but they are not identical!

Absolutly right ,the 6.5x257 Roberts is not the same as the6.5x57 ! They are very similar but don't try to interchange them, BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN! Trust me,I know first hand.

DITTOES. They are not the same dimension. The best way to make cases is to run 7x57 brass through the FL sizer die and turn the necks if needed. The reamers vary and so do the chamber dimensions. Cases made this way will properly fireform, whereas the 257 cases will not headspace properly possibly allowing the neck or shoulder to split blowing gas back into your phizzog. Not good. Dandy performing little cartridge, however. Enjoy. CB.

Maybe some rifles have a larger chamber, but I've never had a problem using 257 brass. I neck it up in a FL sizer, fireform the case, then load it for hunting.
