B.P. 1858 Remington CVA Replica .44 Caliber

Gentlemen,

The title says it all. I inherited the above pistol from my wife's father when he died.
I recall it was a kit gun that he completed approx. 40 years ago. The markings on the gun are as follows:
(1) On the barrel underside it reads ~ BLACK POWDER ONLY CAL.44, MADE IN ITALY
(2) Near the trigger (on the right side) on the frame is stamped the letters "CVA" and above the CVA lettering is a "logo" of a flint lock hammer
(3) On the top of the barrel is stamped "CONNECTICUT VALLEY ARMS INC".

The pistol appears to be in very good shape (no rust) and functionally I know my father-in-law only shot it several times and it was then placed on his gun display rack until he died.

BOTTOM LINE: "I don't know, what I don't even know" about this pistol other than I am tired of it being in a drawer. It should be in the hands of someone that appreciates B.P. guns.
QUESTION: (1) How do I go about selling this gun?, (2) What is it's approx. worth? (3) Is there someone or a company that specializes in pistols of this kind ? (4) Who are they & how do I contact them?

Thanks,

Charles Burhans

P.S. I can take more photo's if someone is interested

Moving this to the black powder forum where it will get the proper attention.

(1) How do I go about selling this gun?
There is a section of this forum at the top which serves as a classified advertisements section for black powder firearms and accessories/accoutrements. Simply post a message there. There are other forums that will also allow you to list the gun for sale. Finally, there are a number of internet auction companies that sell bp replica guns; one such site is gunbroker.com. You do not need to go through a FFL even if the buyer is resident in another state.

(2) What is it's approx. worth?
It's difficult to assess condition from photographs, especially of critical areas like the bore and chambers. Depending on condition, I'd estimate from the photos you posted the value is about $150.

(3) Is there someone or a company that specializes in pistols of this kind ?
There is a large community of enthusiasts who 'specialize' in bp revolvers, and in the 1858 Remington New Army in particular. There are also online auctions which accept consignments.

With regard to the enthusiasts, you've done that. There are several other internet forums besides this one also. For the online auctions, I suggest, but do not necessarily recommend, gunbroker.com

Not that it matters but....

I agree with Mykeal on each point.

I would also add that you can visit a local gun store and chat with them about it. Networking a little can take you to someone that can assess the value of your gun. I've been able to find lots of good resources that way.

Be careful of the "local gun store".
Many of them know absolutely nothing about cap and ball guns.
Try to find a cowboy club and see if they have any Frontiersmen.

How about one of you SASS enthusiasts show the gentleman how to contact his local SASS outfit?

Edit:
Never mind, I found it.
Go to this page (http://www.sassnet.com/clubs/index.php) and contact the SASS club nearest you. 1858 Remingtons are popular with that group.
