i have a palmetto 5.56 m4 (their premium it states?) upper chrome lined and a
delton 5.56 m4 chrome lined upper. both the same twist rate.both m4 feed ramps.
both look the same.
which is the better upper?
looking to keep one and help someone with the other

I have shot both and could not tell any difference in quality. If they were mine I would take them out at the same time, shoot with the same ammo at the same distance and see if one was a bit more accurate than the other with the ammunition and weight you usually use. Other than that one would have to shoot them each with 500+ rounds to see if they had any feed or ejection problems etc. YMMV

The PSA Premium upper has an FN-made hammer-forged barrel, which is more desirable.

Not sure about the Del-Ton.

The PSA with the FN barrel may look better on paper. At the firing line, who knows. I may take 15K rounds to figure it out.

Indeed.

That said, I have a Spikes upper that supposedly has an FN hammer-forged barrel (like many PSA barrels, it is not marked FN, but that is the logical manufacturer), and it will shoot M855 at 2 MOA or less all day long.

This is one of those questions I'd answer but connecting it to the lower and see which one feels and shoots better in my hand. Is it more important to have a .1 moa difference or an upper that relaxes in your hand?

The OP stated that both upper are configured identically (look the same), so reason would say that the ergonomics of both are identical.

I also would keep the PSA upper, especially if it has the CHF FN barrel, but even if it doesn't. I have a PSA upper with the FN button-rifled barrel and love it. It compares very well with my BCM upper (button-rifled barrel) and Daniel Defense upper (CHF). (All of these are midlength, not M4 profile and carbine length gas.)

I have no comment on the DTI, it may be very good but I know the PSA is good.

"desirable"vs better. HMMM!!! I've carried a DelTon for 3 winters and if some other brand is "better" it would have to be self aiming, wind calculating, and range compensating. I treated myself to one of those "more desirable" brand name uppers and found it was inferior to the so called "bargain brand" DelTon I'd been shooting.
"Logo ego" is a bite in the shorts(and pocket book) for those who suffer it.

I bought a Delton upper last year. It has the Pre-Ban 1/9 barrel, free floated and it will shoot 15/16"@ 200yds. I wouldn't discount the Delton upper. Take them out and see which one shoots best and then make a decision.

PSA's FN (Fabrique Nacionale) barrel is CHF (cold hammer forged) and 1x7 twist.

Deltons are usually 1x9 twist.

The FN made barrel is a better barrel.

If you are mostly shooting 55 grain ammo, the 1x9 will probably be more accurate.

Anything longer like 62 grain, is a toss up for the 1x7 will probably be better.

CHF barrels are more reliable and durable.

FN barrels are usally markd hp/mp, high pressure and magnetic particle tested, so there's much less chance of it breaking on your.

Delton doesn't do those tests.

Sell the delton, carry the FN.

My PSA upper with FN barrel has shot many loads under 1" (100 yds five-shot groups), from 55 gr to 77 gr. For a non-target barrel it exceeds my expectations. It has been great from day one.
