I'm in the market for a new holster rig, and from some of the past threads on TFL and a little browsing, I've narrowed it down to a couple holster makers/models. However, there's been little mention of the belt in past threads, except that it's key to the rig.
I've looked at the websites of the makers I'm interested in, and have seen belts ranging from $30 to $60. From the descriptions of the belts, I can't seem to determine what makes one better than the other - they both seem to be made similarly of double-layer hide. Aesthetically they are the same to me. Is this another case of "you get what you pay for"? I'm a fairly thin person, and wearing a gun on a regular belt sags WAY too much. The belt decision, for me, may be just as important as the holster itself. Any suggestions? Anything I should be looking for specifically? As always, thanks for your replies. THis forum is great... I'm sure you've checked this out before, but for jeans and other 1 3/4" belt looped pants, check out the reinforced instructor belt from The Wilderness. It is stitched five times for vertical stiffness, and also has a plastic insert to keep the belt from folding onto itself. It's fairly inconspicuous, and stiffer than my regular 5 stitch belt, so it definitely won't sag (neither does mine.)

Hey AKrob! I've got a few nice (and some kind of crappy) examples to show you. We'll chat about them tonight, eh?

If you are looking for a casual wear belt, take a close look at Dillon Precision's line of leather gear.
I've been wearing one of thier 1 1/4" belts for 2 years now, and it's the best jeans belt I've ever had. I carry my G-23 and Kahr K9 on it regularly with excellent success. The price was right too. It's definitly a casual wear belt. No way could you wear with anything other than jeans. Well...if you are retarded fashion wise or single you could... ------------------ Dan Si vis pacem para bellum! Are you still considering a MD holster.
If not have a look at thier web site, http://www.gunsandgold.com/ and/or give MarkTHG a call at (281) 419-7996. He will give you the scoop on belts and might I add offers high quality belts at a good price. |

I second the "Instructors" belt from Wilderness. The best there is.

I also wear a Wilderness Instructor belt. I love it. Need the stiffness.
But there are so many good belts out there by so many people.... Must prominent gun holster maker also makes belts. Some are highly specialized (Mitch Rosen comes to mind). JSP also makes one if you're a big fan of the Mankrigarotte, though I don't know how well it works with holsters. Mad Dog is also developing gun belt as well. |

I use the Galco dress belts, they're reinforced and have the appearance of a nice dress belt, which they are. 1911, 1 spare mag, pager, my pants still stay up.

Wilderness belts all the way, work great with BDUs and Royal Robins pants. For dress work, I use the Kramer horsehide belt. $100 well spent. Highly recommend that one too. DON"T SKIMP ON THE BELT!! It's your support system!!

Nakano, I'm at the point now that the noise made by my knees exceeds that of the squeaking leather...

Rob, did you find a rig yet? The Wilderness
belt may be fine for BDU's but I have been very pleased with price/performance of Matt Delfatti's 1 1/4 dress belt and SLP and LP rigs. He is a custom maker, advertises in Combat Handguns, has on-line catalog. He is a cop, carries a gun all the time and his rigs show it. |
