I only rarely do turkey shoots, but when I do it's with an 870 (surprise!!!) with an extra full turkey tube and some forcing cone work.
Folks I've seen winning a lot used to use either a Model 12 Winchester or the single shot Model 37. That's declined since the advent of choke tubes. Winchester used to have the perfect choke for tight patterns back then, but tubes and bbl work have moved the envelope out a bit. If you're thinking about getting a shotgun for this only, you may want to try the 37 Winchester SS.Lots of them in the used racks, and not too expensive either. Otherwise, screw in a full or extra full tube and pattern your shotgun. Enjoy... |
