red dot/holosight help needed for a young old man

Long story short, got an M4gery for Xmas to shoot with my son-can't see the front sight pin.

Have been severely near-sighted (corrected to 20/15) my whole life, now have oldster's vision corrected by progressive bifocals. Don't use the bifocals for shooting, makes things worse.

Did a search and read through all the Eotech/Aimpoint threads and have the impression that both "reticles" are focused for far- rather than near-vision.

Not interested in any magnification, just a sight that I can see clearly. I can shoot an excellent group on an orange-centered target by centering the clearly seen orange spot over the black blur that is the front sight post...

Would appreciate feedback from people with similar vision issues using these types of sights.

Thank you.

Thought about a ghost ring/peep setup? Puts everything in focus including the front sight.

Your best bet is to buy one of the $30 cheapies and see how it works for you.

I did just that, to see if it was something I wanted. It was!

I now have Aimpoints on my AK's and AR's, or anything I want to be able to shoot quickly and accurately with.

I've used a number of the "cheaper" sights and didnt have very good luck. The Aimpoints have been great.

Depends on what you are shooting. If you are shooting a .22, then you might be OK with a cheapie. However, if you are shooting a .44mag (or heavier) a cheapie won't last through one box of shells. I bought a Millett (not exactly cheap but still Chinese made) and my .44 SBH has already made it unreliable.

I wast saying it would be the last red dot you bought, just one to try out and see if the concept was what you were looking for.

I think you'll find they will last long enough to help you make a decision. I still have a BSA $30 sight that has been on everything from my AK's and AR's to my MP5, and worked well enough. Right now it rides on my airsoft MP5, and works well there too. It actually worked better than my Burris, which cost $100+ at the time.
