Ak74 and ak47 Receiver

The below link has AK47 receivers for sale. Has anyone built an AK from scratch? In comparison to building a stripped AR lower how difficult and what tools? Are parts available?

thanks

I've thought about it, but the tools required are too expensive, even with a 100% receiver that already has its rails installed. I tried to total up the ballpark cost of the tools I would need and when it went over $300, I told myself "this ain't happening".

Plus, I've never been able to determine precisely all of the tools I would need, including what would be needed to take the barrel pin out and re-insert it. Videos I've watched show a shop hydrolic press being used for this. I wish someone would sell a complete kit with comprehensive video guaranteed to include everything you need to build a quality AK - so far, I haven't found it.

Do a Google search on building AK's. There are sites that have excellent instructions and sell the special tools needed.

Building an AK is nothing like building a modular rifle like the AR-15.
You need special tools, including a large shop press, usually a spot welder, a special riveting tool, and other specialized tools.

Back in the days when AK kits were cheap, you could save money by building your own rifle, and there were AK "build parties" where a number of people would all gather at someone's house and use his tools to assemble their rifles with help from the others.

Now that kits are hard to get, expensive, and don't have the original barrels included, you're really better off just buying a rifle, especially if you intend to only build one or two rifles.

Build an AK receiver from a shovel.
Buy the rest of the parts on line.
