The whole grip angle gripe is an excuse made by people who want to blame the gun for their poor shooting. Using the sights overrides the grip angle and point shooters have to figure out what horizontal means for every gun they shoot. Grip angles vary between gun designs. A proficient shooter will learn how the gun behaves in his or her hand and shoot accordingly. Their groups sizes will not change if the only factor is a change in gun.

Buy it already

Lord get off the fence and jump in! Six years is too long and life is too short. If you really hate it, you can sell it in a soap bubble lifespan because .... People LIKE them. It's a good size for ccw, accuracy, and capacity. I would not argue that it is probably the best all around Glock.

Re: Talk Me Into A Glock 19

My first pistol was a Glock 23. I thought big deal and sold it shortly after. I have since over the years had SIGs, S&W M&P, several HKs, a Beretta PX4 and a few CZs.. I just kept coming back to Glocks. They're not pretty... But that doesn't matter to me - it's strictly a tool. I am not saying Glocks are any better... Or any worse than the others I've owned - just that they work for me. They're minimalistic, simple and have a good track record.

As far as the brass to the face - I must be one of the lucky ones as I have NEVER had a singe spent casing eject backwards.

Glocks just work for me. You have to try several brands and styles to see what works for you.

I personally think the Glock 19 is a fantastic handgun in 9MM. (I own many other Glocks, 1911s, HK, BHP, Colts, S&Ws, Taurus and others)

My opinion is every basic gun collection should include a Glock 19. They are that good. She's not pretty like my custom 1911s but in a pinch, she's going to the dance with me.

As a shooting/gun collecting/gun game/reloading family with 5 kids who shoot (4 are adults now) the GLOCK 19 is one of the favorites. Home defense, plinking, Concealed Carry, Backpacking, Car Gun.... the G19 is the tool.

My youngest (daughter) who had been spoiled by her older siblings (haha) received a GLOCK 19 for her 13th birthday. (Gasp)

We talked about it; determined she was hogging my Gen2 GLOCK 17 (from 1992) at the range so I decided to 'Build' her a special GLOCK 19 for her Birthday. (yes, she is responsible enough for this).

I called Greg over at GLOCKMEISTER.COM because he had some Glock FRAMES for sale at a good price. (2 years ago). Had some parts already; bought the rest of the needed parts from GLOCKSTORE.COM in San Diego.
Put some great 10-8 sights (daughter picked them) with a brass bead front sight. We really like the sight picture with the brass bead.

Built this entire GLOCK 19 for under $500. Ran 500 rounds through it before giving it to my daughter. The gun does have a KKM barrel and it is very accurate. It ran 100% of those 500 rounds by the way.

It was a fun project and well worth the small effort. I also own a GEN4 G19; love it as well.

Just offering some other alternatives if you want to roll-your-own Glock.

Here it is:
the slide is a lonewolf; it comes unpolished so I polished it up on a surface plate.

All of the parts fit perfectly.

See the G17 magazine installed with a spacer..?

IMO, the G19 is the best product that Glock has ever offered and I have owned one and 2 G22s. The reality is that it's time has come and gone with it's greatest marketing potential being newer shooters. Something of an urban legend where the internet has given it almost mythical status. There are better designed poly-pistols out there today than the Glock and Glock has made little headway in any real improvements in the overall design. Since Gaston Glock retired, late gen 3 and gen 4 pistols have become something of a crap-shoot. While he was steering the ship, it was pretty rare to hear about the issues that have plagued pistols after his retirement.

As far as accuracy, I have never bought into the notion that pistols are more accurate than a shooter can realize. I am a long-time and very experienced reloader and my handloads continually go through accuracy evaluations both in hand-held shooting and from a rest and they get chronographed for velocity and uniformity as well. They are shot by me as well as my very experienced shooting partner that's owned his fare share of Glocks for many of the same best held reasons in this thread. There are indeed factors that come into play as far as a pistols inherent accuracy. Bore/chamber quality, dimensional tolerances, fit of barrel to slide and even metallurgy. If I didn't feel confident in my ability to shoot different pistols to the accuracy potential of my best handloads, I'd own a Ransom Rest, but I doubt groups would get appreciably better, if at all.

Through any realistic evaluation of poly-frame pistols covering all aspects like reliabilty and function first, accuracy, pointability, slimness, structural integrity including an examination of the pistols innards and slide rails and factory trigger quality, the XDms and the Ruger SR poly series are better designed and built pistols. You can have all the Glocks you want. I don't want any pistol that doesn't even to this day have a relieved ejection port to prevent cases from dinging the slide upon ejection with the newer pistols having consistent brass to the face issues. Sloppy chambers are not necessary for reliable function, and especially not in 9mm that has a tapered case/chamber, and any notion about polygonal rifling being anything more than a cost saving measure in production is a myth and why buy a pistol when you're gonna need a conventionally rifled aftermarket barrel to achieve the accuracy that cast lead target loads can offer. My personal view after owning an SR9 since mid-March is that the Ruger SR9 or my more recent SR45 is an overall better pistol than an equivalent chambered XDm, and to this day, Ruger is the only large pistol manufacturer who has really come through with the original intent to make less expensive pistols by using a polymer frame.

I know some shooters can't wrap their heads around this concept because many identify Ruger with larger and bulkier auto-loaders. Now the SR poly-pistols are the thinnest double-stacks available. An SR9 is no larger overall than a G19 while it's a good bit trimmer along with being designed and built stronger combined with it's other virtues like some of the best (and adjustable) sights currently available on any pistol. Don't hold my or anyone else's opinions over your own. I invite anyone that can objectively evaluate all of a pistols virtues to make a head-to-head evaluation including accuracy and especially trigger quality between a G19, M&P, XDm and an SR9. If you can do that objectively, you'll buy the best pistol for YOUR needs.

@ Oceanbob, nice! Really nice. I'm sure your daughter is really happy with that gun!

I'm not gonna lie. I like my Glock's almost completely factory, but that as a range toy? I'd love. Thanks for sharing.

The grip frame profile (and angle) of a G19 is the same as a 1911 with an arched main spring housing, though the cross section is obviously quite different (G19 is more rectangular, 1911 is oval).

You said the G19 felt OK in your hand. The only thing left is to actually fire one, then decide.

It doesn't bother me that it is an ugly gun (I have two XD9s and they are one of the ugliest things I've ever laid eyes on). I know out of the other Glocks I've held, G26 included, this is the only one that feels less chunky to me. It doesn't seem to point as well initially to me when I've held them in the gun shops, though, and that's why I am curious if that is overcome quickly when you finally start shooting one.

They're plastic, ugly and soulless.
That isn't a huge deal to me. Heck My ex-wife was all of those things and I still married her for some reason.

For those that have mentioned the Ruger, I've thought about the SR9c but I don't want the safety and the magazine disconnect.

+1 on the XD's. I feel that way about the PPQ too.

As for it being overcome quickly? Yes. IMHO, yes.

The Ruger? hmmm...maybe later on down the road. Also my opinion.

I say get the Glock 19 first. Then decide. Since you posted this thread to talk you into one and all..A part of you really wants one the most. So go for it!

Always good to hear from Plouff...
Myself? I won't own a G19 for two good reasons...G17 and G26.
I was a devotee of the Browning HiPower for decades. Shooting a G30 changed a formerly bad opinion of Glock, and I traded into an OD G17. My experience with that fine pistol led me to purchase a used G26. Between the two of those pistols, all my Glock 9mm needs are met.
In colder weather, I can easily carry the G17. In warm weather, the G26 disappears under a Tshirt.
The G26, in particular really shines for me...I find I shoot it better than the HiPowers I shot and loved for so long...in fact, I sold my last, favorite BHP last year.
I'm sure the G19 is a great pistol. But, I once owned and carried a same size G23 (about 15yrs ago). I have no doubt that the G26 is an easier carry for ME. Others mileage may vary, of course.
Both my Glock 9's have been completely faultless in every respect, and I shoot them accurately.

For you guys interested in the Ruger, the mag disconnect is in the slide. All you have to do to remove it is to take out the striker. You can do that and have it up and running again in 5 minutes.

Joe, if you're dead set against the safety lever, I guess it would be superfluous but the SR9c can be carried without using it. It has a pre-cock striker system somewhat similar to Glock but with a shorter pull required.

My opinion after firing a G19...

Pros:

hi cap
light weight
cool looking
popular

Cons:

I'd have to get used to the steep grip angle
I'd have to get used to the power stapler trigger
I'd have to get used to the bulldozer sights
Missing my favorite pistol part........ a hammer

If the gun doesn't feel right for you or if you aren't convinced you should get one then I would highly recommend you NOT get one.

It makes no sense to buy a gun that you don't really care for when there is such a wide variety out there to choose from.

Talk Me Into A Glock 19

amd6547, that's interesting. Some people such as myself (even though the G19 isn't my only 9mm Glock, let alone only Glock at all) feel that the 19 fills the role of both the 17 and the 26.

I feel no need for a 27 (26, got it the 9mm barrel but sold the gun) and my 17 I'm turning into a race gun (since I stupidly traded my 34).

The 19 filled up both roles for me. And the 4-5 mags I have that are 17 rounds are readily available along with the two 15 rounders.

I have other guns that are prettier and more accurate, but I carry my Glock 26 every day. It is reliable, reasonably accurate, easy to shoot, and, frankly, it started off ugly enough that I never worried about holster wear or little everyday scratches.

My opinion might be worth its price, but I strongly suspect that the grip angle issue has more to do with what one is accustomed to than with any inherent property of the actual grip angle. Some people think they point naturally or comfortably, and others don't; among the latter seem to be a lot of people who are accustomed to 1911s.

Glocks in general have fanboys, haters, and people in the middle, usually with more experience, who regard them as one of several brands of handguns worth considering.

Re: Talk Me Into A Glock 19

My friend has had one for a long time and has countless rounds through it with no issues at all. Just clean it and take care of it. I think along with the 26, the 19 is one of my favorite Glocks!

Get one, and hope that you don't get one with weak ejection or BTF problems. You have been warned

They say a photo is worth 1000 words. I have more expensive guns. I have guns I LIKE better. I have guns that are more accurate. I have guns that are more powerful. But this one shoots 124 gr +P ammo at 1250 fps, about the same speed as 357 mag from short barreled revolvers, holds 15-33 rounds depending on the magazine in it, has never malfunctioned, cost under $500, and is accurate enough to do the job. It has zero sentemental value, if it gets stolen or destroyed I can buy another just like it.

Well said. This is how I feel, just about exactly. I like having my one and only polymer pistol, the glock 19.

It's plastic, it shoots 9mm bullets out of the front hole, it's perfect (according to the plastic box it comes in), most of the time the brass ejects to the right, the trigger feel is like pushing your finger against the foam rubber of the box the gun comes in (see above, it's pErfeCt), the slide is a purply red, and the grip is a browny grey.

Oh, and it's endorsed by Tacticool defense specialist, Monster Drink spokesman, and Tapout shirt model James Yeager.

Talk Me Into A Glock 19

If you like the 19... Get one or two. I don't have a GLOCK, although I may someday if someone traded me one cheap or found one just to add to collection, plus I just like saying GLAAAWK! That little trigger thingy is cute.
