Taurus PT911

I am having trouble shooting this gun with any consisitency. It is all over the place and I am perplexed. Although I am a newbie I shoot 3" groups from 50' with my other guns. They are Sigs, HK's etc and I realize they might be better guns but I have heard good things about Taurus as well.

I love the way this gun looks and would like to keep it. Any ideas?

The barrel fitting in regards to the lock-up and barrel bushing fit are where the majority of the accuracy potential comes from with a 1911. That would be where I would start.

Not a Taurus fan, but their 1911 is good. I actually want one as a carry gun.

Should just be the trigger. Pic of the grouping with the gun?

10 shots at 7 yard.

I've got a PT1911 and an RIA tactical. I shoot the RIA better than the Taurus. I just put Hy-Viz sights on the Taurus. maybe that will help.

Tac

I'll check it out.

You know when you rack the slide the barrel is at a very weird angle. Although this is a very short pistol.

Constantine

It has a strong trigger pull and you got me to thinkin'. It could be yours!

Franco

Those sites would look really good on this gun. I liked them and not too expensive.

I have one in SS.

The barrel-bushing fit on mine was really sloppy, more so than GI spec.

I'd start there.

On mine I replaced the bushing with a EGW oversized that I hand-fitted, now there's no play at all and it shoots really, really well.

I also did a trigger job, replaced the main spring, the hammer, and converted it back into a series 70.

He says its a PT 911. The 911 is a Beretta and Sig style hybrid.

I used to have one of these, they are decent pistols. Get a friend to shoot it and see what it does. Might just be you. (Of course it could be the gun)

Well, even for a Taurus, I'll take a different tack.

Have you had anyone else shoot the gun? How does it do from a rest? What ammo are you using and have you changed to another weight bullet or brand.

IMO - I need to start with the "software" before I start fixing the gun. 99.7 percent of the time it is usually - not always - the shooter.

It may be that you and the gun don't get along.

If the gun misbehaves for multiple shooters then I'd start looking at the gun.

Yes. It maybe me. I have let a few military guys shoot it and their groupings are better. Not much. They always end up with a funny look on their face as if something strange just happened. I think it is the barrel bushing and I may try fixing it although I have many better guns and am probably going to sell it.

your p238 isn't going to have a better grouping than the taurus, but that's because you traded a full size gun for a micro mouse gun. the sig is a great gun for carry. congrats on the upgrade.

Yes, I traded the P238 for a small CCW when a bigger gun just will not do.

As far as accuracy I can hit small gatorade bottles from about 30 feet; a vast improvement over the Taurus.

Hhmmm....The PT-911 (a medium-frame pistol,by my recollection) is a somewhat smaller/lighter version of the PT-92, -99, & -917, although their magazines aren't compatible with the 911. It's an all-metal construction; the gun has been discontinued by Taurus. 3" groups at 16+ yards with your other handguns (?) is excellent, especially for a self-described newbie---so, there's no point in speculating about lots of reasons for a spread-out groups that aren't related to the firearm.

I've never had any significant problems with any Taurus products (just lucky, I guess), and I've shot a number of them in different models/flavors. I've found them to be as accurate as I am--again, I've had no significant problems.

I see you've traded the Taurus for another handgun. If you come by another Taurus/Taurus-Family product, you might consider participating in the Taurusarmed.net Forum. The folks over there are knowledgeable about the products, and obviously aren't as inclined to bash the Taurus line as are folks on other forums. Even though I'm banned from that forum (my request, over a "political" difference), I have to say in general that they're pretty nice.--Patrice
