This story in from our European affiliates - Romanian Special Forces have killed a red squirrel over 1.84m (6 feet) long and weighing more than 120kg (265lb). The bizarre creature is believed to be a prehistoric "Saber Toothed Squirrel" thought extinct by scientists since the last ice age. He terrorized villages in the Carpathian Mountains for months before he was finally cornered by elite units of the Romanian Army. More than 100 rounds of rifle ammunition were required to subdue the beast. Here, his vanquishers pose with his carcass:

That is so bogus! It's obvious those are not real Romanian soldiers, they are Lithuanian. You can tell by the BDUs.

Did anyone else notice what appears to be a huge vein of gold running along under the beasts head?

Perhaps, but I was limited by what came up in a quick Google image search for 'squirrel', and beggars can't be choosers - that's about as lucky as I could hope for in an image to support a Squirrelzilla joke - two GI-Joes on a roadkill squirrel- - I'll take it!
