pilot survival knife

THis may be off topic, but since everyone on this board is also into knives, here goes- When was the Air Force pilot survival knife adopted?

(The above wise-crack reply is based on the fact that survival knives were issued to aircrews in the Army Air Corp, which went on to become a separate branch in '47).
