Inside Neck Lubing

I just picked up a neat trick. The inside of necks can be lubed perfectly with any of the dry lubes mixed with birdshot. Put abut 3/4" of shot in a small container and mix in the lube. Press the necks of a handful of cases into the shot and they're lubed.

I think Neco originated this concept. They have been selling powdered Moly and small ball bearings in shallow jars for case neck lubrication for some years. You just press the case down in and turn it in the bearings. Their kits are available with either stainless or chrome ball bearings.

The better path, IMHO, is to get dies with carbide expander balls so you can skip the inside neck lubing altogether. An article in (I think it was the November, 2005 issue) Precision Shooting detailed optimizing neck sizing to maximize bullet tension and the significant accuracy gains possible from doing this. It is an argument against leaving any trace of neck lube behind, and, therefore, in favor of avoiding using it whenever possible.
