How do I add quotes (from other people's posts) to my posts? There are no buttons to do this in the threads - why?

Because people end up mindlessly quoting entire messages, and those replies end up getting mindlessly quoted in their entirety, and it ends up looking a lot like a typical corporate email where everyone uses Outlook and the past 20 levels of replies are included for no good reason. Well, maybe not quite that bad.
Use copy and paste. Highlight the text you want to quote, hit ctrl-insert or ctrl-c. When you reply, type
, then ctrl-v or shift-insert, then

Suppose I wrote this in a prior post
