New to reloading What should I get?
I am new to guns but have become interested reloading. What presses do you think are the best for a beginner? What else I need to get? Thanks for all your help. I love getting all this good advice from you guys.

I started out with a simple RCBS kit. It has virtually everything the beginning reloader needs. There are a few things that you might not like about it or wish to add to it when you get a little more loading experience but for me it worked great. It helped my learning process because everything was slow and one step at a time. Great for the beginner.

If you really want to get up close and personal with reloading, or maybe don't have a lot of money or a shop or utility room in which to leave a press set up, try the Lee Hand Press. It's very inexpensive, does everything the other ones do (only slower) and stores in a small box or desk drawer when you are not using it. I have used one to reload over 3,000 rounds of 5 different handgun calibers since November and really enjoy using it. Total investment in press and dies, which can be used on bench presses later is less than $200. Total savings in ammo cost, in excess of $700 so far.

If your budget allows for it, I would recommend a Lee Classic Turret as a fine press to jump in with. If that costs too much dough, a Lee breech lock challenger would suffice. If you can find a used Rock Chucker at a garage sale, that would be a fine way to start as well.

Attention Brass rats and other reloaders: I really need .327 Federal Magnum brass, no lot size too small. Tell me what caliber you need and I'll see what I have to swap. PM me and we'll discuss. |
