Reloading 45 ACP with GreenDot
Has anybody reloaded 45 ACP with GreenDot powder? In the LEE reloading manual, it is listed as having one of the highest velocities and lowest pressure for 230 grain jacketed bullet, but I don't see GreenDot listed on alot of other manuals. Does anybody has any experience with it and is it as good as it seems in the reloading charts?

I guess it depends what level of accuracy you want.
As for me, only seeking "combat accuracy" for the 45, Alliant powders are the same to me...I'm talking about Red Dot, Green Dot, Blue Dot and Unique...I've used them all in the 45...can't tell any real-world difference and don't care if there is one. Just use the one that gives you the best yield per pound of powder, the least chamber pressure and the fps you are seeking. -- John D. |

I agree
keep it simple....unique for velosity, bullseye for accuracy...that works for me.

What are you looking for? Fast bullets or little recoil?

It's a good powder that delivers very low pressures and still burns pretty well. I use it mostly for shotgun since it delivers a clean shot with very tight patterns, but have reloaded .45 with it only a few times. I had decent luck with it and may try it in the future, but I have a lot of Unique to burn up in the meantime. I would prefer it to most of the faster powders since it doesn't tend to be as finicky as TG and Clays due to it's bulkier nature, and doesn't tend to be as dirty as Unique.

I have, and also in 44 mag and 45 colt with cast. It goes bang and the bullet hits the target. It's a good pistol powder. sundog

Titegroup is dirty as could be in .45.
I shot it today at 26 degrees outside w. 4.6gr titegroup w/ 230 Berrys Plated RN and it i think average FPS was like 697. Didn't make powder factor. That was my first time shooting it so i have to bump up the grains. It was too dirty i dont think i'll even use it again. Clays gets me 173 power factor at 4.2gr 230Berrys RN. 1.250". Great load. |

I have loaded 4.7 grains of green dot behind a 200 gr lead SWC that was very accurate in my 625 and was reliable in my Series 70 Gold Cup. FWIW

.45 ACP w/Green Dot
For a range load I use 200 gr plated SWC with 4.7 grs of Green Dot; and 230 gr FMJ or plated RN with 4.5 grs. Both are clean burning, accurate target loads with moderate recoil and low flash.

I load a 230 grain fmj to 90% per Alliant data (4.9 grains). Works well in a Glock 30, 36 and a Ruger .45lc/acp convertible.
