Remington 1100 LW .20ga

Found a LW in .20ga full choke vent rib. Going to use it for a dove gun should I look for a modified vented barrel or have choke tubes installed? Have about $250 in project it's in 75-80% shape should I shoot what I got or is this a money pit?

Is the choke threaded? Dove are small, so a full choke isn't ideal, but you can make it work. If you need a shotgun that will work just fine. I dont think it will make a huge difference in how you shoot. Most people use improved modified or even cylinder bores for dove, but its really up to you to do your part. I'd say go for it if all you want is a shotgun to hunt with.

I would leave it as is. It should make a pretty good dove gun with a full choke. If you consider tubes, consider the cost and what you can trade the gun and cost of tubes and get for you money on trade.

If you consider that a new Model 1100 is around $1,100, then you could have choke tubes installed and refinish the gun and still spend only a fraction of the cost of a new gun. On the other hand, if you just want a dove shooting beater, you might get a brake cylinder hone and open your choke a little.

We can only suggest what we might do if in your shoes. You need to evaluate your budget, get some accurate costs on proposed changes and make a decision. You really don't need to do anything, as my friend, olddrum, said, "…leave it as is. It should make a pretty good dove gun…"

A barrel can be honed out for about $35 from most reputable smiths. It can be threaded for about $75, plus the cost of chokes. Choke tubes can run the gamut from about $15 to about $150, depending on brand - Someone like Carlson's would work out reasonably on the cost for something like this.

I would also suggest this in order to give it and you a chance to see how it works out for you. I've owned two LW,s, both were fixed chokes. I am to understand that these are LW's as opposed to the LT's. I mention this because the LW's are more restrictive on what you can do with them, than teh LT's. I would not have a problem using this on Doves, as is. if you are patient, you might be able to pick up a cheap fixed shoke barrel. All you really need, is a FULL and MODIFIED. Good luck ......

I have a Remington 1100 LW serial# L41XXXK that I just bought from a friend. It is all original and in excellent shape, I was wondering if this gun was rare? It has a 25" (24 7/8) ribbed barrel and says Imp Cyl. Any help would be appreciated...

Before altering the barrel, try various loads, from various manufacturers.
The actual pellet in flight spread can vary quite a bit.
There's also methods of reloading that can make a difference in the pellet spread, too.

Slow and raining. I shoot doves with a full choke by choice so I would say go for it. The LT is a design modification of the LW because there were issues with some LWs that were apparently used to shoot a lot of heavy loads. I have never seen one with a problem that I can recall, but I would stay away from a diet of real heavy loads. Doves and such are perfect.
That 25" or so barrel is 26" in Remington speak.
