Pro-Mag magazines
Hi,i used to sell and when i get my new store opened again. I would sell pro-mag regular and hi-cap magazines. Any one ever have any problem with or selling any at all? I know some guys prefer factory hi caps instead of after market like pro-mag or mec-gar. Does mec-gar magazines work as well too? I know pro-mag does offer in natchez catalog newer hi capacity magazines like a 30 round for xd-40's. Thanks,Jack

I would never use Pro-mag or Mec-gar mags, nor would anyone I shoot with.

My personal experience with magazines made by Pro-Mag and Mec-Gar has been less than outstanding. In my SIG P-220's I ended up having problems.
Stayed with factory mags and have had much, much less trouble.

I carry my Sig 220 with Pro Mags, and use the factory mags for range time. Also Mec Gar Makes the factory Sig mags!

I have never used Pro-Mag magazines, but have used Mec-Gar, and they are very good magazines. I have never had trouble with any of them.
I understand that Mec-Gar makes mags for some of the top handgun manufacturers. Jerry

I have had uneven experience with ProMags in my SIGs. Though useful for malfunction drills, my experiences won't let me carry with them. I did find replacing the original springs with Wolffe's made a very positive difference in their reliability. FWIW, YMMV.

"...time. Also Mec Gar Makes the factory Sig mags!"
That's why I don't have a SIG or any of the other pistols on the MecGar list. A few years ago, I bought two of the MGs for a ruger MKII comp target. Neither would work and were extremely soft. The buzz at that time was that they did a good job on magazines they made for the gun companies- built them to the specifications of the companies and used good material and heat treating- but went cheap on the ones they sold under their own name. Pretty packages though. |

mec, MecGar makes the factory mags for about 60% of the firearm makers! I would be VERY hesitant to say I wouldn't carry anything with a MecGar based of your experiences with a .22. I have 3 .22 pistols and I would NEVER carry any as a defensive firearm! I wouldn't carry one even if it were a revolver! It is just not a reliable bullet. There are more misfires in a box of .22's then any box of even junk relaodsiin any other caliber! The .22 was/is designed for plinking, not for defense. I am not saying it wouldn't work, I'm just saying My Sig's with Pro Mag's and Mec Gar's are way more reliable then not. I have shot my Sig's more than a 1000 rounds without cleaning them, and they still go bang! My 220 Is carried with 3, 8 round Pro Mag's. And My 226 is carried with 2 factory mags (Mec Gar's) and one MecGar. These are the guns I trust my life, and that of my family to. When I go camping in the middle of the winter in BEAR country, I have 25 rounds of .45 230 ball in 3 Pro Mags. I trust both companies with my life. Just my opion.

I suspect your hesitation is well founded. My experiences with MecGar seem to be contrary to most people's. |

All the Mec Gar mags I have used have been champs. Wish I could say the same for Pro Mags.

Mec-Gar do make the mags for Sig (in Italy)...also for the 220 try Novak...(same place in Italy)
Check out CDNN...you can get Sig factory (used) for just a little more than most aftermarket. |

Never had a problem with Mecgar mags. I was perusing a CZ-97 and when I ejected the mag I saw that the "factory" mag had a mecgar stamp on it. I am told that they make a lot of factory mags, the only difference is the "badging" on them. I would be amused to know how many of the people who stated that they would never use mecgar mags have them as "factory" mags.
As far as promags go, I have a couple on order for my -75B. I doubt I will have a problem, but if I do it shouldn't be difficult to correct. |

A gunsmith named, I believe Caperton, who worked for Strayer Voight told me that there are only a few companies that make magazines. They will make them under their own lable and for the gun companies. The various companies specify the metals, components, etc that they want in their magazines and supposedly these specifications are followed.
This may or may not be true. I did hear it from a major player in the custom pistol industry. A decade ago, dealers were saying that MecGar made good primary magazines for their gun company customers and shoddy ones under their own lable. I don't see how that would make any business sense but strange things do happen in the industry. |

I have 2 Pro-Mag's for my Bersa .380. They're flawless.
Having said that, I have "heard" there are a bunch of counterfeit Pro's out there. Those are supposed to be horrible. AFS |
