And this year before I load my deer rifle, I'll say a little prayer for all the soldiers, past and present. Thanks man and have the best deer season ever!!!!!

In post #79 of this thread

I talked about a new load for my .270 WSM.

But I will also get out my Lefty 7X57 Mauser. I recently found a little hole-in-the-wall gun shop that had 2 boxes of Nosler Partitions in 7X57 for only $24.50 a box!! A good price, nowadays, for Rem Core Lokts, or Win "Super X", much less for premium bullets. So I bought both boxes, zeroed the 7X57, and looking forward to deer and/or hog targets.

Then there is my Win Model 70 "Short Action Carbine", in .243. Pencil thin, 20 inch barrel, slender fore end on the stock, has a Leupold Vari-X III, 1.75-6X scope. Entire rig weighs only about 6, maybe 6 1/2 pounds. Ideal for "sneaking and peeking" in the close cover of the East Texas Piney woods.

Life is good.

Ruger Mini-30 with an XS ghost ring rear sight. Wolf 7.62X39mm 123grn JHP's.

Bowling pin accurate from 75 to 100yds. which is all I will need here in the swamps, and dense forests of northern Michigan.

Ya just flat do not need them big guns to kill deer. A 257 Roberts will get the job done just fine if you're half a decent shot at all.

Remington 1100 and an 870. We only hunt with shotguns. The 1100 has a scope. The 870 is open sights for rainy, snowy days.

Last one was with an Ithaca 37 Deerslayer, 65 yards on horseback, lucky shot.

I'll be using my trusty Ruger Mk II all-weather .300 Win Mag that has taken five (nice) whitetails, a so-so muley, two elk and a black bear in the 15 years I've had it. This isn't counting the dozen or so doe. NOT ONE animal has went over 10 yards and yes, it has messed up some shoulder meat. First trip to the range (many years ago) it shot a cloverleaf, 3-shot, 1/2" group at 100 yards and hasn't changed a bit. Until I put a new scope on this year I never had to touch the scope settings in 15 years. Not many can say that. (I check it every year though).....

Same exact story with my Model 94..honest to God But I haven't changed out that Old Bushnell fixed 4X that I put on 20yrs ago..still dead on to this day at a 100yds.

Been there, did that.

Deer on the left was taken 11-15-10 with a Mosin Nagant '43 Tula 91/30 and a S&B 180 gr. Sp

Deer on the right was taken 11-16-10 with an NEF Handi Rifle in 45-70 and my handload of a Rem. 405 JSP @ 1350 fps.

Both were 1 shot affairs. Best of luck in your pursuits.
