My first deer rifle was built by my Dad 8mm Mauser. Still have it still looks, and shoots great. I dont use it anymore but started my wife out with it for one year just to see if she liked deer hunting. It was the first time I shot it in about twenty five years. Five shots 100 yards right in the bull. Could not believe it.

30-30 Winchester model 94 carbine. I still hunt mulies with a similar carbine but newer model featuring angle-eject.

30-30 is a keeper!

First one was when I was no older than 10. I used a .223 and hit a little deer from 350-400 yards. Hit him in the spine and dropped him. He did require finishing off though.

Used the .223 a few more times, then and since, been using dad's Winchester Model 70, .270 Win. which is to thank for all our trophies.

7mm Mauser, first misses and a few kills until I was gifted my own rifle. After that 30-06, and most recently 45 ACP and 257 Roberts.

44 Magnum
In my opinion, nothing finer inside of 100 yards. Now outside of 100 yards, it works great if you can figure out the hold over.

Was about 1958, I was about 10...used a 1906 Winchester .22 Long Rifle. Got a nice fork horn. Shot him right between the eyes at about 30 yards. Oh man we ate good that night.

1973 when I was a skinny 12-year-old kid. Winchester 94 in .30-30, paid for by a summer of baling hay on the farm.
